Manitoba Highway 20A
Provincial Trunk Highway 20A (PTH 20A) is a long provincial highway spur in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Its main purpose is to provide access to Dauphin for any traffic using PTH 20. Unlike most alternate highways, which would have been the original route of the main highway before it was realigned and redesignated, the southern leg of PTH 20A (1st Avenue N.E.) was the original route of PTH 5 before its current section between Ochre River and PTH 10 south was constructed and opened to traffic in 1959. Prior to the realignment of PTH 5, PTH 20's southern terminus was just east of Dauphin. Although it acts as the eastern boundary for its city limits, PTH 20 never enters Dauphin itself. Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure () is the provincial government department responsible for managing infrastructure in Manitoba. It is in charge of "the development of transportation policy and legislation, and fthe management of the province’s vast infrastructure network." Manitoba Infrastructure was initially known as Public Works, which changed to Government Services in 1968, when the province expanded the department to include the provision of common services for other governmental departments. In 2016, the department name would be changed to its current one. Dauphin () is a city in Manitoba, Canada, with a population of 8,457 as of the 2016 Canadian Census, with an additional 2,388 living in the surrounding Rural Municipality of Dauphin (RM), for a total of 10,845 in the RM and city combined. The city takes its name from Lake Dauphin and Fort Dauphin (first built 1741), which were named by explorer Pierre Gaultier de La Vérendrye in honour of the Dauphin of France, the heir to the French throne. Dauphin is Manitoba's ninth largest community and serves as a hub to the province's Parkland Region. The current mayor of Dauphin is Christian Laughland. Provincial Trunk Highway 20 (PTH 20) is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from PTH 5 and PR 582 just south of Ochre River to PTH 10 in the village of Cowan. The highway provides an eastern alternative access option to Dauphin along with PTH 20A. The speed limit is 90 km/h (55 mph). PTH 20 is part of the Northern Woods and Water Route. Route description PTH 20 begins by traveling for eight kilometres north through Ochre River to the southwestern edge of Dauphin Lake before turning west toward Dauphin. It then turns north at the Dauphin city limits (PTH 20A actually enters Dauphin) to provide access to the western shores of Dauphin Lake and Lake Winnipegosis. Manitoba Highway 5
Provincial Trunk Highway 5 (PTH 5) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The highway starts at the Hansboro–Cartwright Border Crossing on the Canada–United States border and ends at the Saskatchewan boundary west of Roblin. Besides Roblin, it passes through the communities of Cartwright, Glenboro, Carberry, Neepawa, McCreary, Ste. Rose Du Lac, Grandview, and Gilbert Plains along its route. The highway, in a section concurrent with PTH 10, bypasses the City of Dauphin. (PTH 5A / 10A does run through Dauphin.) The segment of PTH 5 between PTH 10 and Ste. Ochre River is a local urban district in the Rural Municipality of Lakeshore, Manitoba, Canada, approximately halfway between the City of Dauphin and Ste. Rose du Lac. It was founded by Sir Douglas Thompson (May 12, 1854 – March 23, 1938) in 1893 as a farming community; many of the buildings have survived since. Provincial Trunk Highway 10 (PTH 10) is a provincial primary highway located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. PTH 10 begins at the International Peace Garden along the Canada–United States border near Boissevain. The highway runs north through Brandon, Dauphin, Swan River, and The Pas to the Saskatchewan boundary at Flin Flon. The speed limit is 100 km/h. PTH 10 is designated as the John Bracken Highway between the International Peace Garden and Riding Mountain National Park, and the Northern Woods and Water Route between Dauphin and The Pas. Provincial Trunk Highway 10A (PTH 10A) is the name of four provincial primary highways located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. These highways are alternate routes of PTH 10, and each section was the original alignment of the parent highway. The four sections are located in Flin Flon, Swan River, Ethelbert, and Dauphin. Flin Flon section The section in Flin Flon follows the original alignment of PTH 10. The current alignment of PTH 10 bypasses around Flin Flon and into the downtown area. Northern Woods And Water Route
The Northern Woods and Water Route is a route through northern British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in Western Canada. As early as the 1950s, community groups came together to establish a northern travel route; this was proposed as the Northern Yellowhead Transportation Route. The Northern Woods and Water Route Association was established in 1974, and encouraged promotion of the route with the promise of an increase in tourist travel. The route was designated in 1974 and is well signed throughout its component highways.
