Maneuvers (Voyager Episode)
"Maneuvers" is the 27th episode of '' Star Trek: Voyager'', and the 11th episode in the second season. In this science fiction television show, the spacecraft USS Voyager encounters the Kazon and former crew member that defected, Seska. The episode features many scenes with Chakotay, Seska, and various guest stars in the role of the Kazon. It also features several special effect sequences with various spacecraft. Martha Hackett guest stars as Seska, returning to reprise that character, and she plays opposite Anthony De Longis cast as the Kazon sect leader First Maj Culluh. Kazon
The Kazon () are a fictional alien race in the ''Star Trek'' franchise. Developed by '' Star Trek: Voyager'' series' co-creators Rick Berman, Michael Piller, and Jeri Taylor, the Kazon serve as the primary antagonists during the show's first two seasons. They are represented as a nomadic species divided into eighteen separate sects, and characterized by their reliance on violence. A patriarchal society, the Kazon have a low opinion of women, and place pride in men becoming warriors and proving themselves in battle. A transporter is a fictional teleportation machine used in the ''Star Trek'' science fiction franchise. Transporters allow for teleportation by converting a person or object into an energy pattern (a process called "dematerialization"), then sending ("beaming") it to a target location or else returning it to the transporter, where it is reconverted into matter ("rematerialization"). In the ''Star Trek'' science fiction franchise, the Maquis are a 24th-century paramilitary organization-terrorist group (like the World War II Maquis in the French Resistance and the Spanish Maquis that emerged in the Spanish Civil War). UPN Network
The United Paramount Network (UPN) was an American broadcast television network that launched on January 16, 1995. It was originally owned by Chris-Craft Industries' United Television. Viacom (through its Paramount Television unit, which produced most of the network's series) turned it into a joint venture in 1996 after acquiring a 50% stake in the network, and subsequently purchased Chris-Craft's remaining stake in 2000. On December 31, 2005, UPN was spun off to CBS Corporation when Viacom split into two separate companies. CBS Corporation and Time Warner jointly announced on January 24, 2006, that the companies would shut down UPN and competitor The WB to launch a new joint venture network later that year. Robert Beltran
Robert Adame Beltran (born November 19, 1953) is an American actor, known for his role as Commander Chakotay on the 1990s television series '' Star Trek: Voyager''. He is also known for stage acting in California, and for playing Raoul Mendoza in the 1982 black comedy film ''Eating Raoul''. Early life Beltran was born in Bakersfield, California, the son of Aurelia and Luis Beltran Perez, who were immigrants from Mexico. Beltran attended East Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield College. He has two sisters and seven brothers, including Latin Jazz musician Louie Cruz Beltran. Career Beltran graduated from California State University, Fresno with a degree in Theater Arts and moved to Los Angeles to begin his acting career. Chakotay
Chakotay is a fictional character who appears in each of the seven seasons of the American science fiction television series '' Star Trek: Voyager''. Portrayed by Robert Beltran, he was First Officer aboard the Starfleet starship USS ''Voyager'', and later promoted to Captain in command of the ''USS Protostar'' in '' Star Trek: Prodigy''. The character was suggested at an early stage of the development of the series. He is the first Native American main character in the ''Star Trek'' franchise. This was a deliberate move by the producers of the series, who sought to provide an inspiration as with Uhura in ''Star Trek: The Original Series'' for African Americans. To develop the character, the producers sought the assistance of Jamake Highwater who falsely claimed to be Native American.
