Menagh ( ar, منق, also spelled Manaq or Manq) is a town near Azaz 16 km North of Aleppo in northwestern Aleppo Governorate of northern Syria. Administratively part of Nahiya Azaz, Manaq had a population of 2,128 in the 2004 census. Nearby localities include Azaz to the north, Maraanaz to the northwest, Kaljibrin to the east and Tell Rifaat to the south. Menagh is located by the Baghdad Railway connecting Aleppo with the Turkey, Turkish city of Adana, and by the strategic Highway 214 (Syria), highway 214 to Gaziantep. The Menagh Military Airbase is situated immediately to the west of the village. History During the Roman Empire Menagh was a Roman Empire, Roman era station of the Roman Province of Syria. It was known as Minnica at this time. Syrian Civil War The Siege of Menagh Air Base took place here in 2013. The village was captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces on 9 February 2016. References

Menagh Military Airbase
Menagh Military Air Base (or Minnigh airport, Minakh Air Base) ( ar, قَاعِدَة مَطَار مِنِّغ, Qāʿidat Maṭār Minniḡ) is a Syrian Air Force installation located south of Azaz, Aleppo Governorate, Syria near the village of Manaq. Menagh Air Base was home to the 4th Flying Training Squadron, equipped with MBB 223 Flamingo trainer aircraft and Mil Mi-8 helicopters. Syrian Civil War The air base became a major target of the armed opposition in the Syrian Civil War's Battle of Aleppo. The air base was under siege by opposition forces from August 2012 until it fell to the rebels and Islamists (including ISIL, the Northern Storm Brigade and Tawhid Brigades) on 6 August 2013. It subsequently fell under control of the Al Nusra Front. On 10 February 2016, the Syrian Democratic Forces from nearby Afrin captured the airbase, aided by Russian airstrikes.
