''Man on Horseback'' (german: Michael Kohlhaas – der Rebell, link=no) is a 1969 West German drama film directed by Volker Schlöndorff based on the novel '' Michael Kohlhaas'' by Heinrich von Kleist. It was entered into the 1969 Cannes Film Festival. Another film based on the book was released at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. Volker Schlöndorff
Volker Schlöndorff (; born 31 March 1939 Friday) is a German film director, screenwriter and producer who has worked in Germany, France and the United States. He was a prominent member of the New German Cinema of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which also included Werner Herzog, Wim Wenders, Margarethe von Trotta and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. He won an Oscar as well as the Palme d'Or at the 1979 Cannes Film Festival for ''The Tin Drum'' (1979), the film version of the novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Günter Grass. Early life Volker Schlöndorff was born in Wiesbaden, Germany to the physician Dr. Georg Schlöndorff. His mother was killed in a kitchen fire in 1944. Michael Alan Gothard (24 June 19392 December 1992) was an English actor, who portrayed Kai in the television series '' Arthur of the Britons'' and the mysterious villain Emile Leopold Locque in the 1981 James Bond film '' For Your Eyes Only''. Early life Michael Gothard was born in London in 1939. As a child, he lived in both Wales and London. After leaving Haverstock School, he travelled in France for several months before returning home. Anthony May (23 May 1946 – 24 December 2021) was an English stage, television and film actor. He trained at R.A.D.A. from 1965 to 1967. Early life May was born in Reigate, Surrey. Gregor von Rezzori (; May 13, 1914 – April 23, 1998), born Gregor Arnulph Herbert Hilarius von Rezzori d’Arezzo, was an Austrian-born, Romanian, German-language novelist, memoirist, screenwriter and author of radio plays, as well as an actor, journalist, visual artist, art critic and art collector.
