Mammoth, Utah
Mammoth is an unincorporated community and semi-ghost town in northeastern Juab County, Utah, United States. Description The town lies in Mammoth Canyon on the west flank of the East Tintic Mountains, approximately west of Mammoth Peak, at an elevation of .USGS 7.5 min. Quadrangle maps: Eureka and Tintic Junction It is about south of Eureka and east of the Tintic Junction. Mammoth was founded ''circa'' 1870 during the boom and bust mining cycle of the American West. The name for the town comes from the Mammoth Mine located near the area. History The Mammoth Mine was discovered around the same time as the settlement of Eureka in February 1870. Miners rushed in and began a boomtown. The area was remote and the environment harsh; no water was to be found nearby. Tintic Standard Reduction Mill
The Tintic Standard Reduction Mill—also known as the Tintic Mill or Harold Mill—built in 1920, and only operating from 1921 to 1925, is an abandoned refinery or concentrator located on the west slope of Warm Springs Mountain on the southern edge of Genola, Utah, United States. In 2002, the Utah Department of Environmental Quality tested the soil and found it contained high levels of arsenic and lead, which can lead to serious health problems and even death. Description The mill was designed and built by W. C. Madge. It is significant as the only American mill using the Augustin process during the early 1920s. and Metals processed at the mill included copper, gold, silver, and lead, all of which were received from another mill near Eureka. ''The General'' is a 1926 American silent film released by United Artists. It was inspired by the Great Locomotive Chase, a true story of an event that occurred during the American Civil War. The story was adapted from the 1889 memoir ''The Great Locomotive Chase'' by William Pittenger. The film stars Buster Keaton who co-directed it with Clyde Bruckman. At the time of its initial release, ''The General'', an action-adventure-comedy made toward the end of the silent era, was not well received by critics and audiences, resulting in mediocre box office returns (about half a million dollars domestically, and approximately one million worldwide). Marion Mack
Joey Marion McCreery Lewyn (April 8, 1902–May 1, 1989), known professionally as Marion Mack, was an American film actress and screenwriter. Mack is best known for co-starring with Buster Keaton in the 1926 silent comedy film, '' The General''. After retiring from acting in 1928, she wrote several short screenplays and took up a career in real estate. Film career Mack was born Joey Marion McCreery in Mammoth, Utah. After graduating from high school, she sent a letter and a photograph to director Mack Sennett expressing her desire to be an actress. Sennett's manager wrote back informing McCreery that they would give her an interview if she ever came to Hollywood. McCreery, her father and her stepmother traveled to Hollywood shortly thereafter and sneaked into Sennett's Keystone Studios. ''26 Men'' is a syndicated American Western television series about the Arizona Rangers, a law-enforcement group limited to 26 active members. By March 1958, the program was carried on 158 stations in the United States. The program was also broadcast on ATN-7 in Australia and on ZBM-TV in Bermuda.
