Malta Handball Association
The Malta Handball Association is the governing body of handball in Malta. It is affiliated to the International Handball Federation (IHF), the European Handball Federation and the Malta Olympic Committee (MOC). It is also registered with the Malta Sports Council (MSC). The MHA promotes handball and beach handball on the islands and administers the competitions. Six clubs are currently registered, being Aloysians HC, Kavallieri HC, La Salle HC, Luxol HC, Phoenix HC and HMS HC. History The Malta Handball Association was founded in 1995, in 1999 the men's National team made its international debut in Cyprus during the first edition on the European Handball Federation Challenge Trophy. In the years 2003, 2009 and 2011, the Malta Handball Association organized the European Handball Federation Challenge Trophy. Handball (also known as team handball, European handball or Olympic handball) is a team sport in which two teams of seven players each (six outcourt players and a goalkeeper) pass a ball using their hands with the aim of throwing it into the goal of the other team. A standard match consists of two periods of 30 minutes, and the team that scores more goals wins. Modern handball is played on a court of , with a goal in the middle of each end. Beach Handball
Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce or roll a ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Because the ball loses most of its bounce on sand, there is little to no dribbling, and players instead perform more passing as the rules of travelling still apply. Description Matches are played as best two-out-of-three sets. If teams are tied at the end of a regular set then the teams play for a golden goal. If the teams are tied at the end of 2 sets then the teams will participate in a tie breaker. The tie break involves a goalie throwing the ball to their own player while that player attempts to score one-on-one with the opposing goalie. During regular play, if the goalkeeper scores a goal this counts as two points, compared to a normal goal scored by an outfield player which counts as 1 point. Gżira
Gżira ( mt, Il-Gżira) is a town in the Central Region of Malta. It is located between Msida and Sliema, also bordering on Ta' Xbiex. It has a population of 8,029 as of March 2014. The word ''Gżira'' means "island" in Maltese, and the town is named after Manoel Island which lies just adjacent to the town. The seafront of Gżira has views of the walled city of Valletta, which are illuminated at night, forming a backdrop to Manoel Island, the yacht marina and a seafront public garden. Paul Zammit
Paul John Zammit (born 28 April 1941) is a former Australian Liberal politician. He was born into the Maltese-Egyptian community in Alexandria, Egypt, the son of a Maltese father and a Greek mother. He and his family migrated to Australia in 1955, aboard SS ''Strathnaver'', and settled in the Sydney suburb of Punchbowl. Zammit was a businessman before entering politics. He was the member for the state electorate of Burwood from 1984 to 1988. After Burwood was abolished, he was elected as the member for Strathfield at the 1988 state election. In 1991, he was made Assistant Minister to the Premier Nick Greiner and held that post when John Fahey took over as Premier in 1992.
