__NOTOC__ Malone is an unincorporated community located in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin near the Sheboygan River and Mt. Calvary, in the towns of Marshfield, and Taycheedah. Malone is located in The Holyland region of Wisconsin. It is home to a post office. History Malone was a stop on the Sheboygan & Fond du Lac Railroad. Originally named St. John, it was renamed Malone after the railroad official H. T. Malone. A post office called Malone has been in operation since 1877. The Malone Area Heritage Museum provides an in-depth look at Malone's culturally diverse history as a railroad town throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. In 2005, the museum moved the original train depot across the street and began restoring it. Mount Calvary, Wisconsin
Mount Calvary is a village in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 762 at the 2010 census, down from 956 residents at the 2000 census. History Mount Calvary's location was chosen by missionary Casper Rehrl; he selected the large hill because of its excellent view and he placed a Christian cross, wood cross. John Durham (Medal Of Honor)
John Stafford Durham (a.k.a. Mark Cromwell, June 8, 1843 – January 12, 1918) served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He received the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Perryville. Biography Durham was born on June 8, 1843, in New York City, the son of Amos H. Durham and Mary Ann née Laken. He ran away from home at age seven and was adopted by a showman, who changed his name to ''Mark Cromwell''. Durham's official residence was Malone, Wisconsin when he joined the Union Army. He joined the 1st Wisconsin Infantry in August 1861, and mustered out in October 1864. During the Battle of Perryville he took over as the flag bearer for his regiment when the color sergeant was shot. He moved forward with the flag until he was ordered to stop midway by his commanding officer. Durham was admitted to the Soldiers' Home in Leavenworth, Kansas in 1902; he died there on January 12, 1918 and was buried at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth. His grave ... Malone Area Heritage Museum
The Malone Area Heritage Museum is a historical museum in Malone, Wisconsin, United States. The museum documents the history of immigrants into the Holyland region of Wisconsin. The museum is affiliated with the Wisconsin Historical Society. It has been in existence since 2005. It is open to the public on Thursday afternoons between 2:00 and 4:00 pm and on the second Sunday of each month. Displays The museum consists of two buildings. Both were purchased from Malone's co-op. One is the original train depot for Malone, which was moved across the street to its present location in early 2005. Had the building not been moved, it would have been dismantled because it was in the way of large trucks. It documents the development and usage of the Sheboygan and Fond du Lac Railroad. Action Advertiser, originally Action Advertising Co. and now officially known as Action Publications, is a newspaper based out of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin which features only "good news" along with retail, display and classified advertising. All Action products are free and delivered to homes in Fond du Lac, Dodge and Green Lake Counties, respectively. Action Publications newspapers, Action Sunday (Action Sunday West) and Action Advertiser were offered on Sunday and Wednesday. The Fond du Lac Reporter, Action Publication's sister paper, offers a daily news product. The Holyland (Wisconsin)
The Holyland is an American region located mainly in northeastern Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin and southern Calumet County. The area is known for its distinctive agricultural landscape, a close-knit community life, and deep Roman Catholicism brought by Germans who first settled the region in the 1840s. The area has been studied as an example of chain migration. It has been called "The Holyland" since at least 1898. Location The Holyland area is located in the region east of the southern end of Lake Winnebago and it crosses political boundaries. Taycheedah (originally Taychedah) is a town in Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 3,666 at the 2000 census. The census-designated places of St. Peter and Taycheedah and the unincorporated communities of Hopokoekau Beach, Linden Beach, Minawa Beach, Peebles, Silica, and Welling Beach are located in the town, as well as Malone, which is partially located in the town.
