The Malmi Cemetery ( fi, Malmin hautausmaa; sv, Malms begravningsplats) is a large cemetery located at the corner between Ring I and the Lahti Highway ( E75) in the Malmi district in Helsinki, Finland. It is the largest cemetery in Finland in terms of both area and number of burials. It was a former training camp site for soldiers under the administration of the Finnish Crown. In the early 20th century, Malmi Cemetery even had its own train connection and water tower. Aarne Edward Juutilainen (; 18 October 1904 – 28 October 1976), nicknamed "The Terror of Morocco", was a Finnish army captain who served in the French Foreign Legion in Morocco between 1930 and 1935. After returning to Finland, he served in the Finnish army and became a national hero in the Battle of Kollaa during the Winter War with the Soviet Union; with his relentless fighting spirit, he rose to legendary status on the war front. Puustellinmetsä Mass Grave
The Puustellinmetsä mass grave was a mass grave that was located in Puustellinmetsä, Suutarila, Helsinki, Finland. It was created during the Finnish civil war in 1918. The remains of the bodies in the grave were transferred to the Malmi Cemetery in 1971. History On the final day of the Finnish civil war, on 15 May 1918, there was a shooting incident in Tapanila, in which a White Guard man named Karl Lindström was killed. Kulosaari Cemetery
The Kulosaari cemetery ( fi, Kulosaaren hautausmaa, fi, Leposaaren hautausmaa, sv, Brändö begravningsplats) is the smallest cemetery in Helsinki parish union. It is situated on Iso-pässi island (later Leposaari island) in Kulosaari district of Helsinki. It was inaugurated in 1925. Hietaniemi Cemetery
The Hietaniemi cemetery ( fi, Hietaniemen hautausmaa, sv, Sandudds begravningsplats) is located mainly in the Lapinlahti quarter and partly in the Etu-Töölö district of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. It is the location for Finnish state funeral services and is owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. The cemetery includes a large military cemetery section for soldiers from the capital fallen in the wars against the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany: in the Winter War (1939–1940), the Continuation War (1941–1944) and the Lapland War (1944–1945). In the centre of the military cemetery are the tombs of the unknown soldier and Marshal C. G. E. Mannerheim. Malmi Railway Station
Malmi station ( fi, Malmin rautatieasema, sv, Malms järnvägsstation) is a railway station in the Malmi district of Helsinki, Finland. It is located between the stations of Pukinmäki and Tapanila, along the main railroad track from Helsinki to Riihimäki, about north from Helsinki Central. Malmi station was opened in 1871 to serve a nearby army training ground and received new station buildings in 1873 and 1878. The third station building was constructed 1932–1934, and was electrified in 1969. The current station building was completed in 1986, and Helsinki commuter rail services began to call at this station in 1988.
