Malawi National Netball Team
The Malawi national netball team, nicknamed "The Queens", represent Malawi in international netball competitions. History Malawi have played in six World Netball Championships, famously finishing fifth in 2007. The Queens are coached by Peace Chawinga Kalua who replaced Whyte Mlilima, who was appointed as caretaker head coach after former coach late Griffin Saenda had to withdraw from the team on medical grounds. As of November 2022, the team are sixth on the World Netball Rankings. In 2012 they competed in the Fast5 tournament in Auckland, where they have had several historic results including wins over Australia and England, and finished in 5th place, just narrowly missing out on the finals. This followed a draw against Australia in the 2010 Edition. 2007 World Netball Championships
The 2007 World Netball Championships was the 12th edition of the INF Netball World Cup, a quadrennial premier event in international netball co-ordinated by the International Federation of Netball Associations (IFNA). Sixteen nations contested the title from 10 to the 17 November. It was held in the West part of Auckland, New Zealand. Forty-eight matches over 8 days were played in The Trusts Stadium, Waitakere. The event was broadcast to over half a dozen countries Australia defended its eighth title to defeat the home side, New Zealand, 42–38. Withdrawal of hosting rights After seeing off competing bids from Australia and South Africa, Fiji was awarded the hosting rights for the 2007 World Netball Championships in November 2003. Netball At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
Netball is one of the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Birmingham, England. This will be the seventh staging of netball at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998, and the second staging within England specifically. The tournament is scheduled to take place between 29 July and 7 August 2022. Schedule The competition schedule for the netball tournament is as follows: Detailed fixtures were first released on 12 November 2021, then updated with the full complement of qualified teams on 4 March 2022. Venue The tournament was originally set to be held in Coventry Arena. However, the sport's heightened profile in light of England winning the 2018 tournament led to the National Exhibition Centre being chosen instead. Caroline Mtukule
Caroline Mtukule (born 15 October 1986) is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi in the positions of goal defence or goal keeper. She has featured in four consecutive World Cup tournaments for Malawi in 2007, 2011,  2015 and in 2019. She has also competed at the Commonwealth Games on five successive occasions in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 representing Malawi. Bridget Kumwenda (born 8 September 1991), also referred to as Bridget Chalera or Bridget Kumwenda Chalera, is a Malawi netball international player. She represented Malawi at the 2011, 2015 and 2019 Netball World Cups and at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Takondwa Lwazi also spelt as Takwonda Lwazi (born 15 May 1992) is a Malawian netball player who plays for Malawi internationally and for Malawian local club Blue Eagles in the positions of C and WA. She is known as one of the finest netball centre players to have played for Malawi despite being only 160cm tall in height. She also serves as a Police Sergeant in the Malawi Police Service. Career She was part of the Malawi team which finished at fifth position at the 2013 Fast5 Netball World Series. Joyce Mvula (born 15 April 1994) is a Malawian netball player. She was selected to represent the Malawi national netball team, Malawi netball team at the 2019 Netball World Cup. She played in the Netball Superleague with Manchester Thunder for 6 years from 2017 until 2022 after which she announced she would be leaving to play in another country. After helping Manchester Thunder win the 2022 Netball Superleague season, 2022 Netball Superleague title, Mvula announced that she was leaving the club. She subsequently signed for Central Pulse ahead of the 2023 ANZ Premiership season.
