Mala Kunia (Tangerine Dream Album)
''Mala Kunia'' (2014) is a mini-album and roughly the 140th release by electronic music group Tangerine Dream. Violinist Hoshiko Yamane is not credited on this release. Overview Mala Kunia was released as a limited edition on occasion of the Australian concerts in late 2014. The album features seven new compositions, including two which were co-composed by new band member Ulrich Schnauss together with Edgar Froese. With this release a new Tangerine Dream era was started, "The Quantum Years", which focuses on a more back to basics approach to composition influenced by quantum physics. This album is named for the name of two Aboriginal tribesaccording to Aboriginal mythologyliving ages ago around Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock, whereas the Mala tribe lived on the sunny side and the Kunia on the shady side of the rock. A mini-LP or mini-album is a short vinyl record album or LP, usually retailing at a lower price than an album that would be considered full-length. Tangerine Dream
Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music band founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. The group has seen many personnel changes over the years, with Froese having been the only constant member until his death in January 2015. The best-known lineup of the group was its mid-1970s trio of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann. In 1979, Johannes Schmoelling replaced Baumann. Since Froese's death in 2015, the group has been under the leadership of Thorsten Quaeschning (Froese's chosen successor and the current longest-serving band member, having joined in 2005). He was joined by violinist Hoshiko Yamane in 2011, Ulrich Schnauss in 2014 and Paul Frick in 2020. Tangerine Dream are considered a pioneering act in electronica. Bianca Froese-Acquaye
Bianca Froese-Acquaye is an artist, author and painter. She is the manager of the band Tangerine Dream. In 2002 she married Tangerine Dream founder Edgar Froese, they remained married until his death in 2015. She performed vocals on the 2002 Tangerine Dream album ''Inferno''. She is the co-author of Edgar Froese's autobiography ''Force Majeure''. Bianca Froese-Acquaye co-produced the TV-documentary ''Tangerine Dream: Sound from Another World'' and the longer cine version ''Revolution of Sound: Tangerine Dream'', directed by Margarete Kreuzer. Edgar Froese
Edgar Willmar Froese (; 6 June 1944 – 20 January 2015) was a German musical artist and electronic music pioneer, best known for founding the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1967. Froese was the only continuous member of the group until his death. Although his solo and group recordings prior to 2003 name him as "Edgar Froese", his later solo albums bear the name "Edgar W. Froese". Biography Froese was born in Tilsit, East Prussia (now Sovetsk, Russia), on D-Day during World War II; members of his family, including his father, had been killed by the Nazis and after the war his mother and surviving family settled in Berlin. He took piano lessons from the age of 12, and started playing guitar at 15. After showing an early aptitude for art, Froese enrolled at the Academy of the Arts in Berlin to study painting and sculpture. Hoshiko Yamane
__NOTOC__ Hoshiko Yamane (山根星子, Yamane Hoshiko; born 4 April 1981) is a Japanese violinist, composer and performer based in Berlin. She has been a member of Tangerine Dream since 2011. Biography Born in Osaka, Yamane attended the University of Arts in Aichi. Her training destined her to be a violinist in classical music, but she extended her practice to modern music and later to pop music. She moved to Europe to further study in Berlin and Rostock, finally relocating in Berlin. In 2009 she started an experimental contemporary dance and live music project, Tansik, with dancer Chizu Kimura. The group produced e.g. the plays "~ing" in 2012 and "Discord" in 2016. In 2011 she joined the band Tangerine Dream. In 2013 she started a solo project, Tukico, with a debut performance at Madame Claude, Berlin, in 2014. Ulrich Schnauss
Ulrich Schnauss (born 1977) is a German electronic musician and producer based in London, England. He is best known for being a member of Tangerine Dream from 2014 to 2020. Biography Ulrich Schnauss was born in the northern German seaport of Kiel in 1977. He had piano lessons when he was seven. He became interested in a range of music: My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Tangerine Dream, Chapterhouse, and early bleep and breakbeat tracks. There was not much opportunity to see his musical influences in Kiel, so he moved to Berlin in 1996. Schnauss' musical output began under the pseudonyms of View to the Future and Ethereal 77. These electronica and drum-driven pieces were noticed by Berlin electronica label CCO (City Centre Offices), to which Schnauss sent CDs on a regular basis. Thorsten Quaeschning
Thorsten Quaeschning (born 23 February 1977) is a German musician. He is the bandleader of the electronic music group Tangerine Dream which he joined in 2005. He performs synthesizers, vocals, guitar and drums. Early life Quaeschning was born in 1977 in Berlin within a classically trained music-loving family. As a child, he learned violin, piano, drums and flute and was drawn to classical composers such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Wagner, Telemann, Smetana and Mozart. Career Before joining Tangerine Dream, Quaeschning worked as a producer for the band Minory. Afterwards, he began to tour with Tangerine Dream behind the scenes in 2003 before joining them two years later. Quaeschning has a second band called Picture Palace music.
