Makin' Time (band)
Makin' Time were a British band from the Black Country towns of Willenhall, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich in the West Midlands, signed to the Countdown Records label and licensed through Stiff Records, and were part of the mod revival scene of the 1980s. They were named after "Making Time", a song by The Creation. The band consisted of four members - Mark McGounden (vocals/guitar), Fay Hallam (organ/vocals), Martin Blunt (bass) and Neil Clitheroe (drums). Their debut single "Here Is My Number" was produced by Pat Collier who had previously worked with Katrina and the Waves. The band released a number of albums and several singles but never managed to convert their energetic sound into chart success. Martin Blunt would go on to perform in The Charlatans, Fay Hallam moved into a solo career and as of 2020 is a member of The Catenary Wires. West Midlands (county)
West Midlands is a metropolitan county in the West Midlands Region, England, with a 2021 population of 2,919,600, making it the second most populous county in England after Greater London. It was created in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972, from parts of Staffordshire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire. The county is a NUTS 2 region within the wider NUTS 1 region of the same name. Stiff Records
Stiff Records is a British independent record label formed in London, England, by Dave Robinson and Jake Riviera. Originally active from 1976 to 1986, the label was reactivated in 2007. Established at the outset of the punk rock boom, Stiff signed various punk rock and new wave acts such as Nick Lowe, the Damned, Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Elvis Costello, Ian Dury, and Devo. In the 1980s, with most of their early signings having moved on, the label found commercial success with Madness, The Pogues, Tracey Ullman, The Belle Stars, Kirsty MacColl and others. Mod Revival
The mod revival was a subculture that started in the United Kingdom in the late 1970s and later spread to other countries (to a lesser degree). The mod revival's mainstream popularity was relatively short, although its influence lasted for decades. The mod revival post-dated a Teddy Boy revival, and mod revivalists sometimes clashed with Teddy Boy revivalists, skinhead revivalists, casuals, punks and rival gang members. The late 1970s mod revival was led by the band the Jam, who had adopted a stark mod look and mixed the energy of punk with the sound of early 1960s mod bands. It was heavily influenced by the 1979 film ''Quadrophenia''. The mod revival was a conscious effort to harken back to the earlier generation in terms of style and presentation. Making Time
"Making Time" is a song by English rock band The Creation, and it was released as their debut single in 1966. It was written by Kenny Pickett (lead singer) and Eddie Phillips. The lyrics portray the experience of working in a clock factory while co-workers listen to their favorites on the radio. The song features an electric guitar played with a violin bow. Cover versions The song has been covered by Das Damen, Little Free Rock, Television Personalities, and Green Bullfrog. You Am I released a version of the song on "Beat Party!", a bonus disc that came with initial copies of their album '' Hourly, Daily''. The Creation (band)
The Creation was an English rock band, formed in 1966. Their best-known songs are "Making Time", which was one of the first rock songs to feature a Bowed guitar, guitar played with a bow, and "Painter Man", which made the Top 40 in the UK Singles Chart in late 1966, and reached No. 8 in the German chart in April 1967. It was covered by Boney M in 1979, and reached the No. 10 position in the UK chart. "Making Time" was used in the movie ''Rushmore (film), Rushmore,'' and as the theme song from season 2 onwards of ''The Great Pottery Throw Down''. Creation biographer Sean Egan defined their style as "a unique hybrid of pop, rock, psychedelia and the avant garde." Katrina And The Waves
Katrina and the Waves were a British rock band widely known for the 1985 hit " Walking on Sunshine". They also won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Love Shine a Light". History Pre-history (1975–1980) The band's earliest incarnation was as the Waves, a group that played in and around Cambridge, from 1975 to 1977. The Waves featured guitarist Kimberley Rew and drummer Alex Cooper. This incarnation of the Waves never issued any recordings, and broke up when Rew left to join the Soft Boys. Fay Hallam
