Make Another World
''Make Another World'' is the fifth full-length studio album by the Scottish rock band Idlewild, released on 5 March 2007 through Sequel Records. The album is the first with bass guitarist Gareth Russell, following Gavin Fox's departure at the end of 2005, and is their first since leaving Parlophone. Vocalist Roddy Woomble said that the band "made a conscious decision to make a strong, loud, rock record." According to the guitarist Rod Jones, the album references each of the band's previous albums, and is a "summing up of the past twelve years". The album was noted for its return to Idlewild's heavier roots, while continuing to maintain a strong sense of melody as displayed on more recent albums. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Howie Weinberg
Howie Weinberg is an American audio mastering engineer with over 2,257 mastering credits, three TEC Awards, 21 Grammy Awards, two Juno Awards, and one Mercury Prize. Career Weinberg mastered Herbie Hancock's 1983 album ''Future Shock''. Other mastering works include the Beastie Boys' ''Licensed to Ill'' and Nirvana's ''Nevermind''. Weinberg began working in the mail room at Masterdisk in 1979, delivering recording tapes in New York City. Mastering engineer Bob Ludwig acted as his mentor. In January 2011, he left Masterdisk to set up his own mastering company in Los Angeles, Howie Weinberg Mastering, which appeared in ''Voyage LA''s "Most Inspiring Stories" on February 11, 2021. King Tut's Wah Wah Hut
King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, also known as King Tut's, is a live music venue and bar on St. Vincent Street, Glasgow, Scotland. It is owned and managed by Glasgow-based gig promoters DF Concerts. The Glasgow live music venue takes its name from a club in New York that hosted music, comedy and performing arts events in the 1980s. Captain (album)
''Captain'' is the first release by the Scottish rock band Idlewild, issued by Deceptive Records in 1998. Although the number of tracks would normally classify it as an EP, ''Captain'' is commonly known as a mini-album. The guitarist Rod Jones notes that the album "was a sort of introduction to Idlewild". The album was produced by Paul Tipler in the first week of October 1997 at River Studios, London. In an interview in 2007, Roddy Woomble spoke about the album, saying that he "was singing in an American accent, y’know! Of course it’s how we found our feet – I was deeply into Tom Barman, and even though he’s Belgian he sang in an American accent, and I thought if he could do it so could I. UK Album Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Rod Jones (musician)
Rodric Iwan Pryce Jones (born 3 December 1976) is a British guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of Scottish indie rock band Idlewild, with whom he has co-written and recorded six studio albums. Jones has released two solo albums and also currently fronts rock band The Birthday Suit. He is also a co-creator of the ongoing musical project, The Fruit Tree Foundation. Early life Jones was born in Durban, South Africa and grew up in London and Leeds, England. His parents are classical musicians, English soprano Alison Jack and Welsh conductor John Pryce-Jones. Jones began playing music at four years of age and initially resisted the musical influence of his parents. Jones' first job was working as a kitchen porter at a Harry Ramsden's restaurant. Roddy Woomble
Roddy Woomble (born 13 August 1976) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and writer. He is the lead vocalist of indie rock band Idlewild, with whom he has recorded nine studio albums. Celebrated for his poetic lyrics and warm, baritone voice, In 2006, Woomble released his folk-influenced debut solo album, '' My Secret Is My Silence'', and has since released four subsequent studio albums: '' The Impossible Song & Other Songs'' (2011), ''Listen to Keep'' (2013), ''The Deluder'' (2017) and ''Lo! Soul'' (2021). In 2020 Woomble released the 'Everyday Sun' EP which featured largely spoken word pieces over minimal, ambient backing. Parlophone Records Limited (also known as Parlophone Records and Parlophone) is a German–British record label founded in Germany in 1896 by the Carl Lindström Company as Parlophon.
