Majaceite
The Majaceite, also known as the ''Guadalcacín'', is the main tributary of the river Guadalete in Andalusia, Spain. Most of its course runs through the national park of the Sierra de Grazalema. Battle Of Majaceite
The Battle of Majaceite was fought in the First Carlist War. Ramón María Narváez y Campos was ordered to intercept the expedition of the Carlist general Miguel Gómez Damas. Narváez left Madrid in October 1836 with three divisions, while Gómez Damas left Ronda on November 18, 1836, entering Algeciras on November 22. On November 23, when he departed Algeciras, Gómez Damas found himself surrounded at the citadel known as Alcalá de los Gazules. Gómez Damas attempted to reach Arcos de la Frontera, but met Narváez's army at the Majaceite River. The battle resulted with Gómez Damas’ withdrawal to Villamartín. An English commentator wrote that “it was at Majaciete that arváezrescued Andalucía from the Carlist invasion by a brilliant ''coup de main'', in a rapid but destruction action, which will not readily be effaced from the memory of the southern provinces.” T. Guadalete
The Guadalete River is located almost entirely in the Spanish Province of Cádiz, rising in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park at an elevation of about , and running for into the Bay of Cádiz at El Puerto de Santa Maria, north of the city of Cádiz. The river's name comes from the Arabic phrase ''وادي لكة'' (Wadi lakath) meaning "River of Forgetfulness". Grazalema is a village located in the northeastern part of the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra del Pinar mountain range (Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park), Grazalema had, as of 2009, a population of 2,205.
