Maithili Wikipedia
The Maithili Wikipedia is the Maithili language version of Wikipedia, run by the Wikimedia Foundation. The site was launched on November 6, 2014. As of , it has articles and registered users. Eighth Schedule To The Constitution Of India
The Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India lists the official languages of the Republic of India. At the time when the Constitution was enacted, inclusion in this list meant that the language was entitled to representation on the Official Languages Commission, and that the language would be one of the bases that would be drawn upon to enrich Hindi and English, the official languages of the Union. The list has since, however, acquired further significance. The Government of India is now under an obligation to take measures for the development of these languages, such that "they grow rapidly in richness and become effective means of communicating modern knowledge." In addition, candidates sitting for an examination conducted for public service are entitled to use any of these languages as a medium to answer the paper. The Telugu Wikipedia ( te, తెలుగు వికీపీడియా) was begun on 10 December 2003 by Venna Nagarjuna, who is known for Padma (a system for transforming text in Indic scripts among open-source and proprietary formats). On 28 August 2016, its article count was 65,048—fifth among the Indian-language Wikipedias, after Hindi Wikipedia, Hindi, Urdu Wikipedia, Urdu, Tamil Wikipedia, Tamil and Nepal Bhasa Wikipedia, Newar. Background In 2005, the Hindi Wikipedia received a boost when Chava Kiran, Akkineni Pradeep, Vyzas Satya, Veeven and Charivari joined; Charivari later spearheaded the Telugu campaign. The Terai or Tarai is a lowland region in northern India and southern Nepal that lies south of the outer foothills of the Himalayas, the Sivalik Hills, and north of the Indo-Gangetic Plain.
