State Route 221 (SR 221) is state highway located in Penobscot County in central Maine. It begins at State Route 15 in Bangor and runs north to Bradford, where it ends at State Route 11 and State Route 155. Route description SR 221 begins at SR 15 (Broadway) at the northern end of Bangor. It then heads north, near Pushaw Lake but not along it. Entering Hudson, SR 221 intersects SR 43. The two routes have a concurrency before SR 43 branches off to the east. SR 221 continues in its northward direction, entering the town of Bradford. SR 221 terminates at a four-way intersection in the town center, which is also the western terminus of SR 155. The road continues north as SR 11 towards Milo. Bangor ( ) is a city in the U.S. state of Maine and the county seat of Penobscot County. The city proper has a population of 31,753, making it the state's 3rd-largest settlement, behind Portland (68,408) and Lewiston (37,121). State Route 11 (SR 11) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maine. It is a major interregional route which runs nearly the entire length of the state from south to north. The southern terminus of SR 11 is at the New Hampshire state line in Lebanon, where it connects to New Hampshire Route 11. Charleston is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. It is part of the Bangor Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,558 at the 2020 census. Millinocket is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,114 at the 2020 census. Millinocket's economy has historically been centered on forest products and recreation, but the paper company closed in 2008. History Millinocket was first settled in 1829 by Betsy and Thomas Fowler and their family, who cleared land for a farm. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Pushaw Lake is a shallow, warmwater lake in Penobscot County, Maine, United States about north of Bangor and west of Orono. History According to some early documents, Bradford was said to be first settled between 1803 and 1805 by James White and Robert Marshall of Thomaston however early settler Cornelius Bradford was among the first to live in the settlement and died there in 1790. Cornelius Bradford is a lineal descendant of Governor William Bradford of the Plymouth Colony. He was the eldest child of Joshua and Hannah Bradford, who were killed during the Raid on Meduncook. Bradford was organized as Blakesburg Plantation in 1820 and was incorporated as a town on March 12, 1831.
