State Route 43 (SR 43) is a state route from Cummings Hill Road and Intervale Road in Temple to U.S. Route 2 (US 2) and US 2A in Old Town. The route is long. Route description Route 43 begins at an intersection with Cummings Hill Road and Intervale Road in Temple. It heads east into Farmington. The route joins U.S. Route 2 and State Route 4. U.S Route 2 leaves the routes and State Route 27 joins the routes. Route 43 heads east and junctions State Route 148. State Route 148 stays just north of the route. Temple, Maine
Temple is a town in Franklin County, Maine, United States. The town was named after Temple, New Hampshire. It is located at the end of Maine State Route 43 (Temple Road), and is said to be one of only two towns in Maine to be situated at the end of a public highway. The population was 527 at the 2020 census. History Hill-farmers from Temple, New Hampshire, Old North Yarmouth, Maine, and nearby Farmington settled the town beginning in 1796. It was incorporated in 1803. Commercial sawmills operated on Temple Stream in the village for many years in the 1800s and 1900s, providing the town a robust local economy. Logging is still vibrant in Temple, but its timber is now trucked to mills in nearby towns. Sugarloaf Mountain (Franklin County, Maine)
Sugarloaf Mountain is a ski mountain located in Carrabassett Valley, Franklin County, Maine. It is the third highest peak in the state, after Mount Katahdin's Baxter and Hamlin peaks. Sugarloaf is flanked to the south by Spaulding Mountain. The northeast and west sides of Sugarloaf drain into the South Branch of the Carrabassett River, which flows into the Kennebec River, and into the Gulf of Maine. The southeast side of Sugarloaf drains into Rapid Stream, then into the West Branch of the Carrabassett River. The Appalachian Trail (AT), a National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, passes within a mile of the summit, skirting the peak to the west, and the summit is reached by a side trail. This side trail, and a trail down the east side of Sugarloaf, were originally part of the AT, which has been relocated down the north side of the mountain to the west of the ski slopes. Interstate 95 In Maine
Interstate 95 (I-95) in the US state of Maine is a highway running from the New Hampshire state line in Kittery, to the Canadian border in Houlton. It is the only two-digit Interstate Highway in Maine. In 2004, the highway's route between Portland and Gardiner was changed so that it encompasses the entire Maine Turnpike (including the former I-495 between Falmouth and Gardiner), a toll road running from Kittery to Augusta. Route description I-95 enters Maine as a six lane highway from New Hampshire on the Piscataqua River Bridge, which connects Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with Kittery. At mile 0.38, the highway becomes the Maine Turnpike. The highway runs in a general northeasterly direction, parallel with U.S. Route 1 (US 1), at this point. State Route 221 (SR 221) is state highway located in Penobscot County in central Maine. It begins at State Route 15 in Bangor and runs north to Bradford, where it ends at State Route 11 and State Route 155. Route description SR 221 begins at SR 15 (Broadway) at the northern end of Bangor. It then heads north, near Pushaw Lake but not along it. Entering Hudson, SR 221 intersects SR 43. State Route 15 (SR 15) is a numbered state highway in Maine, United States. SR 15 runs over from Stonington in the south to Jackman in the north. Route description SR 15 begins in the town of Stonington, at the intersection of Main Street, School Street, and West Main Street. The route proceeds north out of Stonington and through Deer Isle en route to the mainland of Maine. Upon leaving the islands to the south via the Deer Isle Bridge, SR 15 meets SR 175 and forms an approximately concurrency with it. SR 15 then splits off 175 and then joins SR 176 farther to the north. The two routes continue into Blue Hill, where SR 15 turns northward, while 176 goes to the east. State Route 11 (SR 11) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maine. It is a major interregional route which runs nearly the entire length of the state from south to north. The southern terminus of SR 11 is at the New Hampshire state line in Lebanon, where it connects to New Hampshire Route 11. Maine State Route 23
State Route 23 (abbreviated SR 23) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways, running from Sidney to Guilford. It is located in the south-central part of the state, running from southwest to northeast, roughly parallel to Interstate 95 for its entire length. Route description SR 23 begins in Sidney at Belgrade Road, which carries SR 8, SR 11 and SR 27. It runs northward along the eastern side of Messalonskee Lake into the town of Oakland, where it rejoins SR 11 and cuts through downtown.
