Mailbag
''Mailbag'' is an Irish TV programme which was presented by Arthur Murphy and broadcast on RTÉ One for a fourteen-year period, from 1982 to 1996. The presentation, which was initially 10 minutes in length, dealt with viewers letters concerning RTÉ TV programmes and broadcasting in general. The programme later became established in a half-hour Saturday-evening time slot. Arthur Murphy (broadcaster)
Arthur Murphy (4 June 1928 – 7 February 2019) was an Irish television and radio broadcaster. He was best known for presenting ''Mailbag''. Early life Murphy was born in East Wall, Dublin, the elder of two sons born to Jack and Mary Murphy. He attended Saint Columba's National School by North Strand Church. He entered Trinity College Dublin and completed a four-year honours degree course in Modern history and Political Science graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and then the Higher Diploma in Education. He was also a Master of Arts. Career Abroad In addition to singing, Murphy played piano and church organ. Following graduation from university, he moved to London to pursue a singing career and supported himself with a job as a school master. The Ray D'Arcy Show
''The Ray D'Arcy Show'' is the title given to two differing versions of a radio programme hosted by Ray D'Arcy, originally broadcast on Irish commercial radio station Today FM from the late 1990s until 2014 before transferring in February 2015 to the country's national public service broadcaster Raidió Teilifís Éireann-owned radio station RTÉ Radio 1. The show is broadcast each weekday afternoon (originally broadcasting from 9:00am–12:00 midday between the late 1990s and 2014). The original mid-morning radio show competed with RTÉ 2fm's Gerry Ryan (and his successor Ryan Tubridy), RTÉ Radio 1's Pat Kenny (and his successor Sean O'Rourke) and Newstalk's Tom Dunne (and his successor Pat Kenny). During the 2000s, D'Arcy won three consecutive "Best National DJ" Meteor Awards while presenting that incarnation of the show. RTÉ One ( ga, RTÉ a hAon) is an Irish free-to-air flagship television channel owned and operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). It is the most-popular and most-watched television channel in the country and was launched as ''Telefís Éireann'' on 31 December 1961, it was renamed ''RTÉ'' in 1966, and it was renamed as RTÉ 1 upon the launch of RTÉ 2 in 1978. It is funded partly by the government's licence fee; the remainder of the funding is provided by commercial advertising. Because RTÉ is funded partly by the licence fee it shows considerably fewer advertisements than most other channels available in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Today FM
Today FM is an Irish national commercial FM radio station, owned and operated by Bauer Audio Ireland Limited. Broadcasting since 17 March 1997, it broadcasts mostly music, with a daily news and current affairs programme. Today FM holds a licence from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland as far as the year 2027. The station recorded pretax profits of €7.4 million on a turnover of €19.4 million in early 2009, more than twice what it was two years previously. Today FM broadcasts from studios in Marconi House, Digges Lane, Dublin 2.
