Portage County is a county in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2020 census, the population was 161,791. Located in Northeast Ohio, Portage County is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. Its county seat is Ravenna and its largest city is Kent. The county, named for the portage between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas Rivers, was created in 1807 and formally organized in 1808. In addition to the cities of Kent and Ravenna, Portage County also includes the cities of Aurora and Streetsboro, along with five villages, 18 civil townships, and several unincorporated places within those townships. State Route 82 (SR 82) is a state route in northeastern Ohio, with a western terminus at State Route 57 in Lorain County, southeast of Elyria. Route description The route travels predominantly eastward through the southern suburbs of Cleveland as it traverses part of Lorain County, the southern tier of Cuyahoga County, the northern tier of Summit County, and enters Portage County. This segment of State Route 82 is very heavily traveled, and intersects with four interstate highways. Six-ramp interchanges join the route with Interstate 71 and Interstate 77, a partial interchange joins 82 with Interstate 271, and a diamond interchange intersects with Interstate 480/ State Route 14. Windham, Ohio
Windham is a village in Portage County, Ohio, United States. It is formed from portions of Windham Township, one of the original townships of the Connecticut Western Reserve. The population was 2,209 at the 2010 census. In 1942, the US government chose Windham as the site of an army camp for workers at the newly built Ravenna Arsenal. As a result, Windham experienced the largest increase in population of any municipality in the United States between the 1940 and 1950 censuses: The population increased from 316 residents to 3,946. Windham is part of Greater Akron; however, it is slightly closer to Youngstown than Akron and significantly closer to Warren at away, even closer to Windham than the county seat of Ravenna. Due to this, the village also positions itself in relation to cities in the Mahoning Valley. Cleveland And Mahoning Valley Railroad
The Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad (C&MV) was a shortline railroad operating in the state of Ohio in the United States. Originally known as the Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad (C&M), it was chartered in 1848. Construction of the line began in 1853 and was completed in 1857. After an 1872 merger with two small railroads, the corporate name was changed to "Cleveland and Mahoning Valley Railroad". The railroad leased itself to the Atlantic and Great Western Railway in 1863. The C&MV suffered financial instability, and in 1880 its stock was sold to a company based in London in the United Kingdom. A series of leases and ownership changes left the C&MV in the hands of the Erie Railroad in 1896. The CM&V's corporate identity ended in 1942 after the Erie Railroad completed purchasing the railroad's outstanding stock from the British investors.
