Carl Magnay
Carl Ronald Joseph Magnay (born 20 January 1989) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for Gateshead. Due to having Northern Irish grandparents, English-born Magnay is eligible to represent Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland. He made his international debut the Northern Ireland U-21 team on Tuesday 11 August 2009, in an away friendly against Portugal's U-21 team. Christopher Magnay
Christopher Magnay (1767 – 27 October 1826) was an English merchant who was Lord Mayor of London from 1821–22. Magnay was a City of London merchant and a member of the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors. In 1809, he was elected an alderman of the City of London for Vintry ward. He was Sheriff of London from 1813–14. He was master of the Stationers Company from 1816–17. In 1821, he was elected Lord Mayor of London. Claude Magnay
Claudius Stephen Magnay (8 May 1819 – 17 December 1870), known as Claude, was an English clergyman, a writer, and a cricketer who played first-class cricket in a single match for Cambridge University in 1841. He was born at Clapham, London and died at Bedford. Magnay was the son of Christopher Magnay who was Lord Mayor of London in 1821-22 and the brother of Sir William Magnay, 1st Baronet, who was Lord Mayor in 1843. He was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey and at Clare College, Cambridge. While at Cambridge University, he made a single appearance for the university cricket team in a match at Lord's against Marylebone Cricket Club; he batted at No 11 and failed to score in either innings, being not out once. The scorecard for the match is incomplete and it is not known if he bowled. Thomas Magnay
Thomas Magnay (14 September 1876 – 3 November 1949) was a Liberal Party politician in the United Kingdom, who joined the breakaway Liberal National faction and served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1931 to 1945. He unsuccessfully contested the 1929 general election as a Liberal Party candidate in the Blaydon constituency in County Durham. When the Liberal Party divided in 1931 over whether to support Ramsay MacDonald's National Government, Magnay joined the pro-government Liberal National faction. At the 1931 general election he was elected as MP for Gateshead, a previously safe seat for the Labour Party, but where two Labour MPs had died that year. He defeated the influential union leader Ernest Bevin, who was the Labour candidate.
