Christopher Magnay
Christopher Magnay (1767 – 27 October 1826) was an English merchant who was Lord Mayor of London from 1821–22. Magnay was a City of London merchant and a member of the Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors. In 1809, he was elected an alderman of the City of London for Vintry ward. He was Sheriff of London from 1813–14. He was master of the Stationers Company from 1816–17. In 1821, he was elected Lord Mayor of London. The Lord Mayor of London is the mayor of the City of London and the leader of the City of London Corporation. ] The Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors is one of the 110 Livery company, livery companies of the City of London. The Company, originally known as the ''Guild and Fraternity of St John the Baptist in the City of London'', was founded prior to 1300, first incorporated under a Royal Charter in 1327, confirmed by later charters in 1408, 1503 and 1719. Its seat is the Merchant Taylors' Hall between Threadneedle Street and Cornhill, a site it has occupied since at least 1347. Vintry
Vintry is one of the 25 wards of the City of London. Located within it is the City end of Southwark Bridge and, adjacent to that, the hall of the Worshipful Company of Vintners, the City livery company for the wine trade. The ward's boundary is formed by Cannon Street to the north, College Hill and Cousin Lane to the east, the River Thames to the south, and its western edge follows an unusual line along part of Little Trinity Lane, Lambeth Hill and Distaff Lane. The Christopher Wren-designed church St James Garlickhythe is within Vintry ward, near Mansion House tube station. In medieval times, French wine and garlic were landed at the nearby ''Garlickhythe'' ('garlic dock'). Two sheriffs are elected annually for the City of London by the Liverymen of the City livery company, livery companies. Today's sheriffs have only nominal duties, but the historical officeholders had important judicial responsibilities. They have attended the justices at the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey, since its original role as the court for the City and Middlesex. The Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers (until 1937 the Worshipful Company of Stationers), usually known as the Stationers' Company, is one of the livery companies of the City of London. The Stationers' Company was formed in 1403; it received a royal charter in 1557. It held a monopoly over the publishing industry and was officially responsible for setting and enforcing regulations until the enactment of the Statute of Anne, also known as the Copyright Act of 1710. Sir William Heygate, 1st Baronet (24 June 1782 – 28 August 1844) was a British politician who served as Lord Mayor of London from 1822 to 1823. He was the first Heygate baronets, Heygate Baronet of Southend. He was awarded his baronetcy on 15 September 1831 on the occasion of King William IV of the United Kingdom, William IV's 1831 Coronation Honours, Coronation Honours.
