Magnanville
Magnanville () is a commune in the Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region in north-central France. It was one of the thirty communes in the Communauté d'agglomération de Mantes-en-Yvelines, merged into the Communauté urbaine Grand Paris Seine et Oise in 2016. History Until the twentieth century, Magnanville had a population of only about 100 people. The village expanded in the twentieth century, with significant house building taking place from the 1970s. Archaeological excavations have found evidence of a small agricultural settlement in the fifth century BCE. In 1750 Charles Savalette, keeper of the Royal Exchequer, employed the architect François Franque to build the chateau de Magnanville on the site of a smaller chateau that had fallen into disrepair. The chateau was demolished in 1803, but one wing was rebuilt four years later by Baron Jacques-Florent Robillard, governor of the Bank of France. June 2016 Magnanville Stabbing
On 13 June 2016, a police officer and his partner, a police secretary, were stabbed to death in their home in Magnanville, France, located about west of Paris, by a man convicted in 2013 of associating with a group planning terrorist acts. Amaq News Agency, an online outlet said to be sponsored by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), said that a source had claimed that ISIL was behind the attack, an assertion that was later validated. Prosecutor François Molins said the attacker, Larossi Abballa, appeared to be acting on a recent general order from Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to "kill miscreants at home with their families" during the month of Ramadan. Jean-Jacques-Marie Huvé (28 April 1783, Versailles – 23 November 1852, Paris) was a French architect who practiced in Paris, working in a neoclassical manner that he refined working in the ''atelier'' of Percier and Fontaine, Napoleon's chief architects. Biography He was the son of the architect, Jean-Jacques Huvé, from whom he received his earliest instruction. He was named supervisor of the works at the Église de la Madeleine in 1808, and at the decease of its architect, , in 1828, he was called upon to bring the work to completion. His tenacity finally pressed the government to release the funding that permitted the church to be completed in 1842.
