Magic Valongo
MagicValongo or Magic Valongo is an international magic festival and contest that has been held annually in Valongo, Portugal since 1992. It is the oldest magical event in Portugal, and is held in September in the municipality of Valongo, particularly the city of Ermesinde. It attracts about two hundred participants and includes contests, galas with special guests, conferences, magic shows and street shows. In an official newsletter the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (FISM) said that MagicValongo was a "wonderful small scale convention". The festival is organised by an institution carrying the same name – MagicValongo – that is a full FISM member, and it is organized by an experienced expert commission headed by António Cardinal with Fernando Castro, Salazar Ribeiro and Manuel Alves, and the support of the Municipality of Valongo. Valongo
Valongo () is a Portuguese municipality located in the District of Porto and 10 km from Porto, in the northern region of Portugal. The municipality area consists of 75.12 km² and 93 858 inhabitants (2011), and is subdivided into four parishes. The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Santo Tirso, to the northeast by Paços de Ferreira, to the east by Paredes, to the southwest by Gondomar and to the west by Maia. It consists of the cities of Alfena, Ermesinde, Valongo (city) and the towns of Campo and Sobrado. Ermesinde
Ermesinde is a civil parish in the municipality (''concelho'') of Valongo, in continental Portugal, northeast of Porto. The population in 2011 was 38940,Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE)
Census 2011 results according to the 2013 administrative division of Portugal
in an area of 7.65 km². It is the smallest by area, and the densest by population (approximately 5000 inhabitants per kilometer square).

Fédération Internationale Des Sociétés Magiques
The International Federation of Magic Societies (FISM) (Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques) was founded on September 5th,1948 and is one of the most respected organizations in the magic community. It is an international body coordinating dozens of national and international clubs and federations around the world. Together these clubs represent approximately 80,000 magicians from 50 countries and 110 member organizations as of 2022. The organization hosts a self-named "FISM" conference every three years, where magicians compete for "Best of" categories. The most recent FISM was in 2022, held in Quebec City, Canada. Founded in 1948, it is one of the most recognized magic organizations in the magic circle. The FISM organizes a worldwide magic convention every three years. Magic Conventions
A magic convention is a gathering of professional magicians, magical hobbyists, dealers, collectors of magical apparatus, books and ephemera, and other students of the art of magic. It provides a place for lectures of subjects related to the craft, as well as a series of sample performances of noted or innovative techniques. Many conventions also hold competitions to judge who excels at a particular style, and present awards in various categories such as sleight of hand, card tricks, mentalism, and stage illusions.
