Madeline Lee Gilford (born Madeline Lederman; May 30, 1923 – April 15, 2008) was an American film and stage actress and social activist, who later enjoyed a career as a theatrical producer. Gilford was married, secondly, to actor Jack Gilford from 1949 until his death in 1990. Early career Gilford was born in the New York City borough of the Bronx on May 30, 1923 to Polish Jewish immigrant parents. She began working as a child actress when she was just three years old. Her elder sister, Frances Lederman (September 28, 1910 — February 13, 2010), was an actress, known professionally aFran Lee Madeline Lee reportedly appeared in the early ''Our Gang'' episode reels, which were shot in Brooklyn in the 1920s. ''Madeline Lee'' is a one act Australian opera, composed by John Haddock to a libretto written by the composer and Michael Campbell. It premiered at the Sydney Opera House on 8 October 2004 in an Opera Australia production directed by Michael Campbell and conducted by Tom Woods. Plot The story of the opera is based on the disappearance of the B-24 bomber '' Lady Be Good'' in 1943 over Libya in North Africa. Taking elements of the story as portrayed in the television movie '' Sole Survivor'', it enlarges on the themes of dislocation, memory, isolation and identity, and concentrates on the internal relationship between the dead crew and the Major, who heads the search and rescue party sent to survey the wreck. Madeleine Lee is an investment manager and poet in Singapore. Early life and education Lee was educated at Raffles Girls' School (Secondary), Raffles Girls School and subsequently at Hwa Chong Junior College. Lee has written poetry since she was 13. She was mentored by novelist Suchen Christine Lim. Lee's writing was said to be greatly influenced by her maternal grandmother, who single-handedly ran the family's bumboat business and brought up her six children. Lee eventually graduated in the United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Hons) and Accounting, and a Master of Business Administration in Finance. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Marie Madeleine Lee (; born 1932) is a politician, diplomat, and business executive based in Mauritius. She was a member of the Legislative Yuan in Republic of China (Taiwan) from 1981 to 1984, then served as List of ambassadors of Mauritius to China, Mauritian ambassador to the People's Republic of China between 2000 and 2002.
