Madrid Basketball Derby
The Madrid basketball derby ( es, Derbi madrileño), is the name given to the basketball matches between Estudiantes and Real Madrid, both from the city of Madrid. Both teams currently share their home arena, the Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid. Estudiantes and Real Madrid, also with Joventut, are the only teams that played all the seasons in the top tier. History First matches The first match between both teams was played on 5 March 1950 at Fiesta Alegre fronton, as part of the CAVE Cup. Real Madrid won the match by 53–38. Five days later, Real Madrid won again by 35–30. Estudiantes won their first derby on 14 January 1952, by beating the ''merengues'' 31–29. Palacio De Deportes De La Comunidad De Madrid
Palacio de Deportes de la Comunidad de Madrid (English: ''Sports Palace of the Regional Community of Madrid''), officially WiZink Center since November 2016 for sponsorship reasons, is an indoor sporting arena located in Madrid, Spain. The former building, which was built in 1960, was destroyed by a fire in 2001. Architects Enrique Hermoso and Paloma Huidobro projected a ''High-Tech'' style new arena that was built at the same location between 2002 and 2005. The arena hosted two major international basketball events in the first decade of the 21st century - the knockout stage of EuroBasket 2007 and the EuroLeague's Final Four 2008. 1992–93 FIBA European League
The 1992–93 FIBA European League, also shortened to 1992–93 FIBA EuroLeague, was the 36th season of the European top-tier level professional club competition for basketball clubs (now called EuroLeague). It featured 42 competing teams from 33 countries. The final of the competition was held on April 15, 1993, at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in Piraeus, Greece, with Limoges CSP defeating Benetton Treviso, by a score of 59–55. The defending title holder, Partizan, was not allowed in the competition because of United Nations Security Council Resolution 757, which imposed sanctions against Yugoslavia. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–83)
The Liga Española de Baloncesto, also known as LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The Liga Española de Baloncesto is divided into two categories (the other one is the LEB Plata). The LEB league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. It was renamed LEB Oro in 2007. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the LEB Oro are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the LEB Oro are relegated to LEB Plata.
