Madras Symphony
The ''Madras Symphony'' is a symphony by American composer Henry Cowell, the 13th of the 20 he finished. It was composed in 1958. It was composed after Cowell's return from Madras, where he had studied Indian classical music. The five movements of the symphony are I. Alapna: Andante rubato II. Tala Adi: Allegretto III. Allegro IV. Andante V. Allegro The instrumentation includes parts for tablas and jalatarang, which are solistic and virtuosic in nature. The American West Coast premiere of the symphony was given by San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Mark Alburger, at Old First Church in San Francisco on June 10, 2005. Symphony
A symphony is an extended musical composition in Western classical music, most often for orchestra. Although the term has had many meanings from its origins in the ancient Greek era, by the late 18th century the word had taken on the meaning common today: a work usually consisting of multiple distinct sections or movement (music), movements, often four, with the first movement in sonata form. Into The Music (ABC Radio National Program)
''Into the Music'' is the 11th studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, and was released in August 1979. It includes "Bright Side of the Road", which peaked at number 63 on the UK Singles Chart, and other songs in which Morrison sought to return to his more profound and transcendent style after the pop-oriented ''Wavelength''. The record received favourable reviews from several music critics and was named as one of the year's best albums in the Pazz & Jop critics' poll. Recording ''Into the Music'' was recorded in early 1979 at the Record Plant in Sausalito, California, with Mick Glossop as engineer. During the recording of the album, one of the musicians, trumpet player Mark Isham, referred Morrison to Pee Wee Ellis who lived nearby. Radio National, known on-air as RN, is an Australia-wide public service broadcasting radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
