Madison High School is a fully accredited public high school located in Madison, Kansas, United States, and services students in grades 7 to 12. It is operated by Madison-Virgil USD 386 school district. The principal is Stu Moeckel. The school mascot is the Bulldogs and the school colors are black and gold. Extracurricular activities The Bulldogs compete in the Lyon County League. The KSHSAA classification is 2A, the second lowest class. The school also has a variety of organizations for the students to participate in. Madison is a city in Greenwood County, Kansas, United States, along the Verdigris River. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 689. History Madison was founded in 1872 northwest of the present town. In 1879, the town was relocated to its present site when the Howard Branch of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad was built from Emporia to Moline. The first building was the home of W. H. Green, a Civil War veteran. Green came to Kansas in 1867, took up a homestead, and operated a trading post on the original town site. Madison took its name from Madison Township. KSHSAA
The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Out of necessity, the member schools adopted eligibility and participation rules and established authority for a Board of Control to assess penalties against schools for violations.
