Madhu Mangesh Karnik (born 28 April 1931) is a Marathi literary activist from Maharashtra, India. He is a recipient of the civilian honour of Padma Shri (2002). He was born on 28 April 1931, in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. He was the president of Marathi Sahitya Sammelan Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (All India Marathi Literary Conference) is an annual conference for literary discussions by Marathi writers. The Marathi people (Marathi: मराठी लोक) or Marathis are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group who are indigenous to Maharashtra in western India. They natively speak Marathi, an Indo-Aryan language. Sindhudurg district (Marathi pronunciation: in̪d̪ʱud̪uɾɡ is an administrative district of the Konkan division in India, which was carved out of the erstwhile Ratnagiri district. The district headquarters are located at Oros and the district occupies an area of approximately 5,207 km and has a population of 849,651, of which 12.59% were urban (as of 2011).
