Mad River (Pemigewasset River)
The Mad River is a river in the White Mountains of New Hampshire in the United States. It is a tributary of the Pemigewasset River, part of the Merrimack River watershed. The Mad River begins at the Greeley Ponds in Mad River Notch, a mountain pass between Mount Osceola to the west and Mount Kancamagus to the east, in the township of Livermore. The river descends to the south, followed by the Greeley Pond Trail, to the town of Waterville Valley, where the West Branch enters. After winding through the Waterville Valley Resort community, the Mad River proceeds southwest over continuous boulder-strewn rapids into a corner of the town of Thornton, eventually settling out in Campton Pond in the town of Campton. Passing over a small hydroelectric dam at Campton Upper Village, the river descends over some small waterfalls and enters the floodplain of the Pemigewasset River, which it joins near Interstate 93. Mad River Brewing Company is a brewery established in 1989 and located in Blue Lake, California, known for its green production processes. History and awards The brewery was established 1989 by brewmaster Bob Smith. Its Steelhead Extra Pale Ale was listed by the ''Oakland Tribune'' as one of ten "quintessential Northern California beers". Other beers produced by Mad River have included Steelhead Stout, Serious Madness Black Ale, Double Dread Imperial Red, and John Barleycorn Barleywine. Mad River (band)
Mad River was an American psychedelic rock band, who were briefly popular in the late 1960s. They released two albums on Capitol Records. Mad River formed at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio in April 1966. The band took its name from the nearby Mad River. By March 1967, they had relocated to Berkeley, California. There they came to the attention of cult author Richard Brautigan who launched the band into the growing hippie culture. They released an EP on the independent Wee label before signing a contract with Capitol Records in February 1968. The group's lead songwriter was Lawrence Hammond, but all of the members sang vocals. They released two albums before disbanding in July 1969. Mad River Glen is a ski area in Fayston, Vermont. Located within the Green Mountain range, it sits in the Mad River Valley. Though not considered a large ski area, it has a vertical drop of , which ranks 14th in New England, and its terrain was ranked by ''Ski'' magazine as the most challenging on the east coast of the United States. Mad River Glen averages over of snow a year and maintains a traditional form of New England skiing that emphasizes snow preservation on narrow trails with little grooming instead of man-made snow on wide boulevards. Cooper in 1795 to provide access to the new town of Dayton and the "Mad River Country" northeast and north of Dayton. It was located at the mouth of the Mad River in the Symmes Purchase. The survey, entered into the record by Cooper and Dr. John Hole, extended Harmer's Trace north from near Cunningham's Station on the Mill Creek to the mouth of the Mad River, establishing the earliest road between Cincinnati and Dayton. Cooper, a surveyor and miller, was instrumental in the early settlement of Dayton, and Dr. Hole, the first physician in Montgomery County, established his cabin in 1796 near the now-extinct town of Woodburne on Mad River Road.
