Mad Max (film)
''Mad Max'' is a 1979 Australian dystopian action film directed by George Miller and produced by Byron Kennedy. Mel Gibson stars as "Mad" Max Rockatansky, a police officer turned vigilante in a near-future Australia in the midst of societal collapse. Joanne Samuel, Hugh Keays-Byrne, Steve Bisley, Tim Burns, and Roger Ward also star. James McCausland and Miller wrote the screenplay from a story by Miller and Kennedy. Principal photography for ''Mad Max'' took place in and around Melbourne and lasted for six weeks. The film initially received a polarized reception upon its release in April 1979, although it won four AACTA Awards. Filmed on a budget of A$400,000, it earned more than US$100 million worldwide in gross revenue and set a ''Guinness'' record for most profitable film. George Miller (born 3 March 1945) is an Australian filmmaker best known for his ''Mad Max'' franchise, whose second installment, ''Mad Max 2'', and fourth, ''Fury Road'', have been hailed as two of the greatest action films of all time, with ''Fury Road'' winning six Academy Awards. Miller is very diverse in genre and style as he also directed the biographical medical drama ''Lorenzo's Oil'', the dark fantasy ''The Witches of Eastwick'', the Academy Award-winning animated film ''Happy Feet,'' produced the family-friendly fantasy adventure ''Babe'' and directed the sequel '' Babe: Pig in the City.'' Action film is a film genre in which the protagonist is thrust into a series of events that typically involve violence and physical feats. ''Furiosa'' is an upcoming Australian-American post-apocalyptic action adventure film directed by George Miller from a screenplay he co-wrote with Nico Lathouris. It serves as both a spin-off and a prequel to '' Mad Max: Fury Road'' (2015), as well as the fifth overall installment of the ''Mad Max'' franchise. It stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character Imperator Furiosa, with Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, and Quaden Bayles in supporting roles. In March 2020, it was reported that Miller was conducting casting auditions for the titular role of the film, with Taylor-Joy in the mix.
