Maconaquah High School
Maconaquah High School is located at 256 E 800 South, just outside the city limits of Bunker Hill, Indiana. The building houses grades 9–12 and functions as the primary athletic building. It is the only high school in the Maconaquah School Corporation. History On July 1, 1962, Maconaquah School Corporation was formed by consolidating two high schools (Clay and Bunker Hill) in southern Miami County, Indiana. The corporation is named after Frances Slocum, who was captured as a child by Delaware Indians in 1778 from her Pennsylvania home. She grew up with the Miami tribe and married a Miami Indian Chief. She lived in the area near Peru, Indiana, and became known as "Little Bear Woman" or Maconaquah. She is buried in a state historical site near the corporation boundaries. Tavis Smiley
Tavis Smiley (; born September 13, 1964) is an American talk show host and author. Smiley was born in Gulfport, Mississippi, and grew up in Bunker Hill, Indiana. After attending Indiana University, he worked during the late 1980s as an aide to Tom Bradley, the mayor of Los Angeles. Smiley became a radio commentator in 1991 and, starting in 1996, he hosted the talk show ''BET Talk'' (later renamed ''BET Tonight'') on Black Entertainment Television (BET). After Smiley sold an exclusive interview of Sara Jane Olson to ABC News in 2001, BET declined to renew his contract that year. Mike Otto (American Football)
Michael Everett Otto (born July 24, 1983) is a former American football offensive tackle. He was drafted by the Titans in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He played college football at Purdue. Early years Otto attended Maconaquah High School, located in Bunker Hill, Indiana where he played basketball, track, and football. Otto committed to Purdue University on July 8, 2003. Otto had no other FBS scholarship offers for football. Professional career Tennessee Titans Otto was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent the 2007 season on the team's practice squad, and was promoted to the active roster for a playoff game against San Diego on January 6. The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the arbiter of interscholastic competition among public and private high schools in the U.S. state of Indiana. It monitors a system that divides athletically-competing high schools in Indiana based on the school's enrollment. The divisions, known as classes, are intended to foster fair competition among schools of similar sizes. A school ranked 3A is larger than a school ranked 1A, but not as large as a 6A-ranked school. Only football has 6 classes. Boys' basketball, girls' basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball are divided into four classes. Grissom Air Reserve Base
Grissom Air Reserve Base is a United States Air Force base, located about north of Kokomo in Cass and Miami counties in Indiana. The facility was established as a U.S. Navy installation, Naval Air Station Bunker Hill, in 1942 and was an active Air Force installation, Bunker Hill Air Force Base from 1954 to 1968, and Grissom Air Force Base from 1968 to 1994. Pursuant to a BRAC 1991 decision, the installation was downsized to an Air Force Reserve installation and renamed Grissom Air Reserve Base. Since then it has been a joint-use civil airport/military base.
