Macomb Academy Of Arts And Sciences
Often referred to as MA2S, the Macomb Academy of Arts and Sciences in Armada, Macomb County, Michigan is a school for gifted students. Although it is in the Armada Area School District, it is not limited to students enrolled in the district's schools. The current student body also includes students from the Capac, East China, Imlay City, Memphis, Richmond, Romeo and New Haven districts. All courses are taught at the Honors level; some are offered at the AP level. Armada, Michigan
Armada ( ) is a village in Macomb County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,730 at the 2010 census. The 2018 Census Bureau Estimate places the population at 1,729. The village is located within Armada Township. It is best known for its annual Armada Fair. History The first record of land purchased in the area that became Armada Township was made by John Proctor in 1825. Twenty-three more families had bought land in the rural area by 1832. Until 1832 the area was part of Ray Township. At that time a meeting was called to organize a separate township. The vote won by two and Armada Township was founded. When the discussion began to choose the name for the new township, legend says that "Hosea Northrup jumped up and shouted the name 'Armada'". The name was accepted. FIRST Robotics Competition
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is an international high school robotics competition. Each year, teams of high school students, coaches, and mentors work during a six-week period to build robots capable of competing in that year's game that weigh up to . Robots complete tasks such as scoring balls into goals, placing inner tubes onto racks, hanging on bars, and balancing robots on balance beams. The game, along with the required set of tasks, changes annually. While teams are given a kit of standard set of parts during the annual Kickoff, they are also allowed and encouraged to buy or fabricate specialized parts. FIRST Championship
The FIRST Championship is a four-day robotics championship held annually in April at which FIRST student robotics teams compete. For several years, the event was held at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Missouri in 2011, where it remained through 2017. In 2017, the Championship was split into two events, being additionally held at the George R. Brown Convention Center and Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. FIRST Stronghold
''FIRST'' Stronghold was the 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition game. The game was played by two alliances of up to three teams each, and involves breaching the opponents’ defenses, known as outer work as well as capturing their tower by first firing "boulders" (small foam balls) at it, and then surrounding or scaling the tower using a singular rung on the tower wall. Points were scored by crossing elements of the tower's outer works, shooting boulders into the opposing tower's five goals in order to lower the tower strength, and by surrounding and scaling the tower. The name of the game was revealed on October 14, 2015 in a video that was produced with Walt Disney Imagineering. The details of the game were revealed at the kickoff event on January 9, 2016.
