MacGyver (1985 TV Series, Season 1)
The first season of the American television series ''MacGyver'', consisting of 22 episodes, began on September 29, 1985, and ended on May 7, 1986, and aired on the ABC network. Summary In this season, the show introduces MacGyver, described as "an action hero who practiced non-violent methods and fought with his mind instead of his hands or weapons." Clifford John Bole (November 9, 1937 – February 15, 2014) was a director of a number of American and Canadian television programs. He directed episodes of ''The Six Million Dollar Man'', ''The Amazing Spider-Man'', ''Vegas'', '' Charlie's Angels'', '' V: The Series'', ''Baywatch'', ''The X-Files'', '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'', '' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine'' and '' Star Trek: Voyager'' among others. Telling the story of an attack of army ants on a Brazilian cocoa plantation, it was based on the 1937 short story "Leiningen Versus the Ants" by Carl Stephenson. Plot In 1901, Joanna arrives from New Orleans at a South American cocoa plantation to meet her new husband (whom she married by proxy), plantation owner Christopher Leiningen. This has been arranged by his brother in New Orleans. Leiningen is upset that she is a widow, as he wished to marry a virgin. She tells him a piano plays better if it has already been played. Plot summary Leiningen, the owner of a plantation in the Brazilian rainforest, is warned by the district commissioner that a swarm of ferocious and organised soldier ants is approaching and that he must flee. Unlike his neighbours, Leiningen is not about to give up years of hard work and planning to "an act of God", as he believes in the superiority of the human brain and has already made preparations. James Allen Schmerer (June 14, 1938 – October 4, 2019) was an American television producer, screenwriter and author, best known for his work on popular action, western and crime drama television programs of the seventies and eighties. Career After graduating from New York University with a bachelor's degree in motion picture production in 1960, Schmerer moved to Hollywood in 1961 and began his career as an assistant editor on the Mike Wallace-narrated series ''Biography'', before becoming a production coordinator on another documentary series, also produced by David L.
