Maatschappelijke Voetbal Vereniging Maastricht (), commonly known as MVV Maastricht (, ) or simply as MVV, is a Dutch professional football club from the city of Maastricht. Founded on 2 April 1902, MVV Maastricht currently compete in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football. Because their crest is based on the city's coat of arms, an armed angel holding a red shield with a white star, they are nicknamed ''de Sterrendragers'' ("Wearers of Stars") and, in local dialect, ''Us MVV'ke'' ("our little MVV", ). The club's name was formerly Maastrichtse Voetbal Vereniging until 2011, when it was officially changed to include the city name after "MVV." 2021–22 Eerste Divisie
The 2021–22 Eerste Divisie, known as Keuken Kampioen Divisie for sponsorship reasons, will be the 66th season of Eerste Divisie since its establishment in 1956. It will begin on 6 August 2021, and end with the promotion/relegation playoffs on 29 May 2022. Relegation for reserve teams On 1 August 2020, the KNVB detailed on its website in what scenarios will the reserve teams in the league be relegated from the Eerste Divisie. Jeu Van Bun
Johannes Wijbrandus Mathias "Jeu" van Bun (10 December 1918 – 21 December 2002) was a Dutch footballer who played as a right back for MVV Maastricht and the Netherlands national team. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Van Bun played football at the highest level in the Netherlands Football League Championship for nineteen years, mainly as a right back. He played seventeen years as unpaid amateur for MVV Maastricht. During his period at MVV, he gained eleven caps for the Netherlands national team between 1947 and 1949. In 1948, as a member of the national team, he took part at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, where he was part of the team beating Ireland 3–1 in the preliminary round. Johan Derksen
Johannes Gerrit "Johan" Derksen (born 31 January 1949) is a Dutch sports journalist and former football player. He played professional football between 1966 and 1978 for six clubs: Go Ahead Eagles, Cambuur, Veendam, HFC Haarlem, SV Meppen and MVV Maastricht. During and after his footballing career, he became a sports journalist, specialising in football. He was the editor-in-chief of ''Voetbal International'', the Netherlands' most prominent football magazine, from 2000 until his retirement in 2013. Willy Brokamp
Willy Brokamp (born 25 February 1946 in Kerkrade) is a former football player for MVV Maastricht in the 1960s and 1970s who recruited him from ''RKVV Chèvremont'' (in the community of Kerkrade). His nickname was "The blond arrow". He ranked highly in the ''Footballer of the Year'' classification for several times. In 1973, he shared the first place on the list of top scorers with 18 goals together with Cas Janssens. Club career In 1974, he transferred to Ajax Amsterdam, where he himself had two very good seasons (1974/75, 1975/76). Eerste Divisie
The Eerste Divisie (, en, First Division) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie and with the third-level Tweede Divisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away. Each club plays every other club once in the first half of the season before the league takes a winter break around the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. Fons van Wissen (21 March 19337 July 2015) was a Dutch football player. Erik Meijer (footballer)
Erik Meijer (born 2 August 1969) is a retired Dutch footballer. He played as a striker, he was known as a header specialist. He last worked as director of sports for Alemannia Aachen. Career Born in Meerssen, Limburg, Meijer started his career at Fortuna Sittard (1987–89). He broke through in the early 1990s at Dutch Eredivisie club MVV Maastricht and was transferred to PSV Eindhoven in 1994, where he did not play much due to competition by team mates Ronaldo, Luc Nilis and Wim Kieft. He then moved to German Bundesliga struggler KFC Uerdingen 05 in 1995, where he was one of the few bright spots in a hapless squad, and was picked up by Bayer 04 Leverkusen. There, he was paired up with Ulf Kirsten and formed one of the most intimidating striker duos of the Bundesliga. The Eredivisie (; ''"Honour Division"'' or ''"Premier Division"'') is the highest level of professional football in the Netherlands. Cees Schapendonk (born 24 December 1955 in Den Bosch, North Brabant) is a former football striker from the Netherlands. In his sole appearance for the Netherlands national football team on 22 February 1981, he scored in a three-nil victory over Cyprus. Gerard "Pummy" Bergholtz (born 29 August 1939 in Maastricht) is a retired association football player and manager from the Netherlands.
