''MUSHA'' is a vertically scrolling shooter developed by Compile and released for the Sega Genesis in 1990. An entry in Compile's shooter series, ''Aleste'', ''MUSHA'' places the player in the role of a flying mecha pilot who must destroy a large super intelligent computer threatening planet Earth. The game had a working title of ''Aleste 2'' and originally featured a style similar to the first game, but this was changed to a more original Japanese aesthetic and speed metal soundtrack. Initial reception for ''MUSHA'' was mixed. Critics generally agreed the game was enjoyable with great graphics, but found themselves overwhelmed by the number of scrolling shooters on the Genesis and felt the title was unremarkable and lacked challenge. The game was re-released on the Wii Virtual Console in Japan in 2008 and the West in 2009. It was re-released again on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in 2021. Toaplan
was a Japanese video game developer based in Tokyo responsible for the creation of a wide array of Shoot 'em up#Scrolling shooters, scrolling shooters and other arcade games. The company was founded in 1979 but its gaming division was established in 1984 by former Orca and Crux employees, who wanted to make games, after both companies declared bankruptcy. Their first shoot 'em up game, ''Tiger-Heli'' (1985) on arcades, was a success and helped establish Toaplan as a leading producer of shooting games throughout the 1980s and 1990s that would continue to characterize their output. Yuichi Toyama
is a Japanese video game designer, director, and producer. He used to work at Technosoft, Compile and Eighting, and is currently working at Taito since 2017. He is also a writer for the Game Culture Preservation Institute(IGCC). Early years Toyama started his path in the video game industry after his enjoyment of playing Space Invaders. He had read magazines that featured games like Space Invaders, Star Wars, and Gundam. He always wanted to enjoy those games at home. He originally wanted to either get a Sharp MZ-80 or an NEC PC-8001, but in the end, he started with a Hitachi Basic Master Level 2. ''Sega Force'' was an early 1990s publication that covered the Sega console range (Sega Mega Drive, Mega-CD, Master System and Game Gear). History ''Sega Force'', along with ''Nintendo Force'', was initially announced in mid-1991 by Newsfield. However, the liquidation of the publisher resulted in the magazine being significantly delayed. It was eventually launched by Europress Impact in December 1991. The magazine featured artwork created by Oliver Frey that was inspired by Japanese anime, such as '' Akira''. Frey often introduced a horror element into his artwork. ''Sega Pro'' was the first publication from Paragon Publishing and catered for the Sega consoles: the Master System, Game Gear and the Mega Drive. Newsfield Publications Ltd (also known as Newsfield) was a British magazine publisher during the 1980s and early 1990s. Newsfield Publications Ltd was founded by Roger Kean, Franco Frey and Oliver Frey in 1983. Based in Ludlow, Shropshire, Newsfield published a number of popular computer game magazines from the mid-1980s to early 1990s. This line-up was later supplemented by a number of less successful magazines covering role-playing games, film, horror and youth culture. Faced with financial difficulties, the company went bankrupt towards the end of 1991. This didn't spell the immediate end for some of their magazines though. Multitrack recording (MTR), also known as multitracking or tracking, is a method of sound recording developed in 1955 that allows for the separate recording of multiple sound sources or of sound sources recorded at different times to create a cohesive whole.
