MTV Live (TV Series)
''MTV Live'' is an American television program that aired from 1997 to 1998 on MTV, featuring interviews with celebrity guests, live musical performances, news coverage, and music video premieres. 1997 series The program began its run in September 1997 in the then-newly acquired Times Square Studio on Broadway in New York. Toby Amies, Carson Daly and Ananda Lewis served as resident hosts to the daily hour-long live broadcast until its eventual merger with ''Total Request'' on September 14, 1998, forming what is now known as ''Total Request Live''. In a similar vein to its successor, the series featured celebrity interviews, music video premieres, musical performances, and reports from MTV News. One Astor Plaza
One Astor Plaza, also known as 1515 Broadway and formerly the W. T. Grant Building, is a 54-story office building on Times Square in the Theater District, Manhattan, Theater District of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. Designed by Der Scutt of Ely Jacques Kahn, Ely J. Kahn & Jacobs, the building was developed by Sam Minskoff and Sons. One Astor Plaza occupies a site bounded by Broadway (Manhattan), Broadway to the east, 45th Street to the north, Shubert Alley to the west, and 44th Street to the south. Ananda Lewis (born March 21, 1973) is an American television host, carpenter, former model, and social activist. She was an MTV veejay from the late 1990s until 2001, when she left the network to host her own broadcast syndicated television talk show, ''The Ananda Lewis Show''. ''Total Request'' was a music video request show on MTV in the United States. Background The show debuted in April 1998 as part of a renewed effort by MTV to increase the amount of music programming aired on the network. The show originally debuted as a 30-minute program aired as part of a weeknight programming block that also included ''Artist's Cut'', ''Say What?'', and ''Rockumentary Remix''. Carson Daly served as the host. By May, the show had been expanded to an hour, replacing ''Rockumentary Remix''. Each episode consisted of counting down the day's top music video requests received by MTV via phone, email, and a camera set up in Times Square. ''Total Request Live'' (known commonly as ''TRL'') was an American television program broadcast on MTV that premiered on September 14, 1998. TRL featured popular music videos played during its countdown, and was also used as a promotion tool by musicians, actors, and other celebrity, celebrities to promote their newest works to the show's target Teen culture, teen demographics, demographic. During the original run of the program, ''TRL'' played the ten most Request (broadcasting), requested music videos of the day, as voted by viewers via phone or online.
