MTV (UK And Ireland)
MTV is a British pay television channel focusing on reality TV and music programming operated by Paramount Networks UK & Australia. The channel launched as part of MTV Networks Europe localisation strategy in 1997. MTV UK (previously MTV UK & Ireland; MTV One) was launched on 1 July 1997. The channel was set up to provide audiences with local artists and more relevant music content. Prior to the localisation of MTV in Europe, the region was served by MTV Europe which was launched on 1 August 1987. Since February 2011 MTV has been solely an entertainment channel. The channel is in over 10 million homes in the UK and Ireland. Availability From its inception, MTV UK (then branded as MTV UK & Ireland) the network served United Kingdom and Ireland. Sky Multichannels was a package of analogue television services offered by BSkyB on the Astra satellites at 19.2° east from 1 September 1993 to 27 September 2001, which started off with 15 channels before expanding to over 40. History Overview The service started on 1 September 1993, based on the idea from chief executive officer Sam Chisholm and Rupert Murdoch of converting the company's business strategy to an entirely fee-based concept. The new package included four channels formerly available free-to-air on Astra's satellites, as well as introducing new channels. Some of the channels had been broadcast either in the clear or soft encrypted (i.e. a VideoCrypt decoder was required, but without a subscription card) prior to their addition to the Multichannels package. The Music Factory
The Music Factory (TMF) was an originally Dutch brand of television and radio channels operated focusing on pop music. It was similar to the American MTV which took over TMF in 2001. TMF operated channels in the Netherlands (TMF Nederland) as well as in the UK with TMF UK and Australia with (TMF Australia). The brand is owned by MTV Networks International (part of the Viacom conglomerate). Club MTV, formerly MTV Dance, is a European pay television music channel from Paramount Networks EMEAA that was separated from the UK channel on 27 May 2014. MTV Rocks (formerly MTV Two, MTV2 Europe and M2) was a British pay television music channel that was operated by ViacomCBS Networks UK & Australia. ''Dismissed'' (or ''DisMissed'') is a reality television show on MTV that premiered in 2001. One person simultaneously takes two others on a date. Each of the daters chooses a place to go (total of 2 places), and the person running the date dismisses the person they like the least. Each of the competing daters also has a time-out card. When used, the card allowed the competitor twenty minutes alone with their date. An international version called '' Globally Dismissed'' aired as well. It was essentially the same show, except each person came from a different country. ''Date My Mom'' is a television dating show airing on the music channel MTV and produced by Kalissa Productions. The series premiered on November 15, 2004 and ended in 2006. An 18- to 24-year-old heterosexual male, gay male or lesbian female, goes on three separate dates with three moms, who try to convince them to pick their son or daughter to date. The dater only meets the mother and makes their decision solely on their impression of the mother and her descriptions of her child. The dates are varied and are occasionally geared towards the dater's interests. The dates range from a simple lunch date to cheerleading lessons, washing cars, picking wild flowers, cooking, sports, and even getting tattoos. MTV Extra
MTV Extra was a music channel by MTV Networks Europe, the channel first launched on 1 July 1999 on the Sky Digital platform, and was a mixture of music videos and repeats of MTV Programming. Towards the end of the channel's life, programming was dropped and the channel showed solely music videos (under the "Pure Music" name), with MTV Dance in the evenings. MTV Dance was spun off into its own channel on 20 April 2001, and MTV Extra was renamed MTV Hits! (now MTV Hits) at 6am on 1 May 2001. MTV Extra is notable for being the only spin-off MTV channel to use the same song title graphics as its parent channel (although it had its own separate idents). MTV Base was a British pay television music channel from Paramount Networks UK & Australia that focused primarily on hip hop, R&B, grime, garage, reggae, funk, soul and dance music. It was launched as part of MTV's digital boutique of music channels on July 1, 1999 in both the United Kingdom and in Ireland. MTV Base closed on 31 March 2022, and was replaced by MTV 90s. MTV News is the news production division of MTV. The service is available in the US with localized versions on MTV's global network.
