MTA Long Island Bus
The Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) is the local bus system serving Nassau County, New York. It also serves parts of western Suffolk County, New York as well as eastern portions of the New York City borough of Queens, New York, Queens. It was formerly operated under the name of MTA Long Island Bus, the trading name of the Metropolitan Suburban Bus Authority, a division of MTA Regional Bus Operations. In 2011, the owner, Nassau County, decided to outsource the system to a private operator, Veolia Transport, due to a funding dispute with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, MTA. Bee-Line Bus System
The Westchester County Bee-Line System, branded on the buses in lowercase as ''the bee-line system'', is a bus system serving Westchester County, New York. The system is owned by the county's Department of Public Works and Transportation. History The system was founded on May 1, 1978, by the then Westchester County Department of Transportation to consolidate the bus system with thirteen private bus companies and has been given control over the buses, fare structure, routes, and services. By the 1980s, the bus system had an identity problem in who was providing the service. On May 19, 1987, WCDOT officially named the bus service "The Bee-Line System" with a 'bee-in-flight' mascot drawn by cartoonist Jack Davis. Huntington Area Rapid Transit
Huntington Area Rapid Transit is a bus system exclusively within the Town of Huntington in the state of New York. It began service operations in 1978. The system is completely separate from Suffolk County Transit. Fares Fares for the buses are $2.25 for adults, $1.25 for students grades K-12, 75 cents for senior citizens (age 60+), individual with disabilities, Medicare card holders, and free for children 44 inches and under. Transfers to other bus routes cost 25 cents, including to buses of the Suffolk County Transit and Nassau Inter-County Express systems. Long Beach Bus
Long Beach Bus is a public transportation system serving Greater Long Beach on the south shore of Long Island, New York. The service operates twenty-four hours a day, with five different routes connecting to one another and to Nassau Inter-County Express and Long Island Rail Road at Long Beach station in the city center. Although Long Beach Bus is designed to complement county bus and commuter rail service, it is run independently by Long Beach DOT. Ed Mangano
Edward P. Mangano (born March 24, 1962) is an American politician from the state of New York. A Republican, he was the Nassau County Executive from January 2010 to December 2017, and a former legislator in Nassau County, New York. He was elected in 1995 and served seven terms as a county legislator. In November 2009, he defeated incumbent Thomas R. Suozzi for Nassau County Executive. In November 2013, he was re-elected, again defeating Suozzi, by 59% to 41%. In October 2016, a 13-count federal indictment for fraud and bribery was unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York against Mangano, his wife Linda, and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto. He did not seek reelection in 2017. He and his wife were both convicted in March 2019, and are both facing up to 20 years in prison.
