The MRWA C class was a class of steam locomotives built by Kitson & Co. in Leeds, England, for the Midland Railway of Western Australia (MRWA). The class's wheel arrangement was 4-6-2. The five members of the class entered service in 1912 and worked on the MRWA until the 1950s. Midland Junction Railway Station
The Midland Junction railway station was an important junction station on the Eastern Railway of Western Australia until its closure in 1966. Its history started on 1 March 1886 when Frederick Broome, then Governor of Western Australia, turned the first sod. It was the first railway station in Midland Junction and was replaced by the Midland station west, across the tracks from the Midland Railway Workshops. Kitson & Co
Kitson and Company was a locomotive manufacturer based in Hunslet, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Early history The company was started in 1835 by James Kitson at the Airedale Foundry, off Pearson Street, Hunslet, with Charles Todd as a partner. Todd had been apprenticed to Matthew Murray at the Round Foundry in Holbeck, Leeds. Initially, the firm made parts for other builders, until it was joined in 1838 by David Laird, a wealthy farmer who was looking for investments, and the company became Todd, Kitson and Laird. That year saw the production of the company's first complete locomotives, either for the North Midland or the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The Midland Railway of Western Australia (MRWA) was a railway company that built and operated the Midland line in Western Australia. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange. Although having its headquarters in London, it had no association with the English Midland Railway. The Western Australian Government Railways (usually abbreviated to WAGR) operated many unique steam, diesel and electric locomotive classes. Often suffering from lack of available funds the WAGR locomotive fleet often consisted of locomotives far older than their expected operational life.
