CASC5
KNL1 (kinetochore scaffold 1, aka CASC5) is a protein that is encoded by the ''KNL1'' gene in humans. Function KNL1 is part of the outer kinetochore. It is a part of KMN network of proteins together with MIS12, and NDC80. KNL1 is involved in microtubule attachment to chromosome centromeres and in the activation of the spindle checkpoint during mitosis. The ''CASC5'' gene is upregulated in the areas of cell proliferation surrounding the ventricles during fetal brain development. NSL1
Kinetochore-associated protein NSL1 homolog is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''NSL1'' gene. This gene encodes a protein with two coiled-coil domains that localizes to kinetochores, which are chromosome-associated structures that attach to microtubules and mediate chromosome movements during cell division. The encoded protein is part of a conserved protein complex that includes two chromodomain-containing proteins and a component of the outer plate of the kinetochore. This protein complex is proposed to bridge centromeric heterochromatin with the outer kinetochore structure. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. ZWINT
ZW10 interactor (Zwint-1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''ZWINT'' gene. Function Zwint-1 is clearly involved in kinetochore function although an exact role is not known. It interacts with ZW10, another kinetochore protein, possibly regulating the association between ZW10 and kinetochores. The encoded protein localizes to prophase kinetochores before ZW10 does and it remains detectable on the kinetochore until late anaphase. It has a uniform distribution in the cytoplasm of interphase cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
