MAtv
MAtv (formerly Vox) is a Canadian community channels operated by the cable provider Vidéotron within the province of Quebec. History In the 1970s, the first community radio stations started to appear in Quebec. These were non-commercial radio stations operated by social groups, in which the population can participate and whose operation is based on a cooperative basis. These types of stations broadcast programs that dealt with social issues that were typically neglected by other radio stations. The 1970s also saw the emergence of cable television, which allowed the broadcasting of more television programs in certain regions. Community television operates on the same principle as community radio and is hosted by the cable distribution companies, which are governed by a regulation of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Community television in Canada is a form of media that carries programming of local community interest produced by a cable television company and by independent community groups and distributed by a local cable company. A community channel is a form of community television, much like public-access television cable TV in the United States and other forms of citizen-produced content. The provision of a community channel is required by CRTC regulations governing the licensing of cable companies. Cable companies are required to allocate a small percentage of cable subscription revenues for the provision of a community channel. As of 2009, this amounted to over $116 million annually in Canada. Sherbrooke station is a Montreal Metro station in the borough of Le Plateau-Mont-Royal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is operated by the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and serves the Orange Line. This station, near downtown, opened on October 14, 1966, as part of the original network of the Metro. Overview The station, designed by Jean Dumontier and Crevier, Lemieux, Mercier et Caron, is a normal side-platform station, built in open cut due to the difficulty of construction under Berri Street near the Sherbrooke Street overpass.
