National Highway Authority (Pakistan)
The National Highway Authority (NHA; ur, ) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Communications (Pakistan), Ministry of Communications (MoCom) of Pakistan. History In 1978, the Government of Pakistan federalised five important inter-provincial roads and named them ''National Highways''. That same year, the ''National Highway Board'' was set up to monitor the development and maintenance of these federalised roads by provincial highway departments. In 1991 by the ''Highway Authority of Pakistan Act'' was passed to monitor the works and administration of National Highways of Pakistan, national highways, Motorways of Pakistan, motorways, Expressways of Pakistan, expressways and strategic roads. Function The function of the NHA is to plan, develop, operate, repair and maintain all roads entrusted to the NHA by the Government of Pakistan. The M-5 motorway ( ur, ), also known as Multan–Sukkur Motorway ( ur, ), is a north–south Motorways of Pakistan, motorway in Pakistan, which connects Multan with Sukkur. The motorway is a 392 km long, high-speed (120 km/h), Controlled-access highway, controlled-access, six-lane motorway that forms part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It is currently the longest motorway in Pakistan. History The approval for the Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M-5) was granted in July 2014, with an estimated cost of Rs. 200 billion. In May 2016, the Government of Pakistan, Pakistani government awarded the contract to build this section to China State Construction Engineering, with the completion date being August 2019.
