Jean Henri Gaston Giraud (; 8 May 1938 – 10 March 2012) was a French artist, cartoonist, and writer who worked in the Franco-Belgian comics, Franco-Belgian ''bandes dessinées'' (BD) tradition. Giraud garnered worldwide acclaim predominantly under the pseudonym Mœbius (; ) for his fantasy/science-fiction work, and to a slightly lesser extent as Gir (), which he used for the ''Blueberry (comics), Blueberry'' series and his other Western (genre), Western-themed work. Blueberry (comics)
''Blueberry'' is a Western comic series created in the Franco-Belgian ''bandes dessinées'' (BD) tradition by the Belgian scriptwriter Jean-Michel Charlier and French comics artist Jean "Mœbius" Giraud. It chronicles the adventures of Mike Steve Donovan alias Blueberry on his travels through the American Old West. Blueberry is an atypical western hero; he is not a wandering lawman who brings evil-doers to justice, nor a handsome cowboy who "rides into town, saves the ranch, becomes the new sheriff and marries the schoolmarm". In any situation, he sees what he thinks needs doing, and he does it. The series spawned out of the 1963 ''Fort Navajo'' comics series, originally intended as an ensemble narrative, but which quickly gravitated around the breakout character "Blueberry" as the main and central character after the first two stories, causing the series to continue under his name later on. The World Of Edena
''The World of Edena'' (''Le Monde d'Edena'' in French, also published in English as ''The Aedena Cycle'') is a series of graphic novels by French artist Jean "Mœbius" Giraud. It grew organically out of a promotional album Mœbius made for the French car manufacturer Citroën, called "The Star", in 1983. Background and publication history In the initial story, Mœbius introduces two protagonists, Stel and Atan, who crash on a barren planet and must traverse it in an old Citroën. They eventually stumble on a camp of interstellar refugees surrounding a mysterious pyramid, and are transported to an unknown world described as a 'Garden of Eden somewhere in another galaxy'. The open ending of the Citroën story inspired Mœbius to wonder what would happen next. He plotted out three or four books' worth of stories that were also conceived as the basis of a coherent Mœbius universe, one which crossed over with other major works like ''The Airtight Garage''. Alejandro Jodorowsky Prullansky (; born 17 February 1929) is a Chilean and French Experimental film, avant-garde filmmaker. Known for his films ''El Topo'' (1970), ''The Holy Mountain (1973 film), The Holy Mountain'' (1973) and ''Santa Sangre'' (1989), Jodorowsky has been "venerated by cult film, cult cinema enthusiasts" for his work which "is filled with violently surrealism, surreal images and a hybrid blend of mysticism and religious provocation". ''The Airtight Garage'' ( or, in its earliest serialized form, ) is a lengthy comic strip work by the artist and writer Moebius (real name Jean Giraud). It first appeared in discrete two-to-four-page episodes, in issues 6 through 41 of the Franco-Belgian comics magazine ''Métal Hurlant'' from 1976 to 1979, and later in the American version of the same magazine, '' Heavy Metal'', starting in 1977. It was subsequently collected as a graphic novel in various editions. Publication history The book-length version appeared first in the original French and with the original black and white art, and only later in a US edition in English and in color. ''Blueberry'' () is a 2004 French acid Western directed by Jan Kounen. It is an adaptation of the Franco-Belgian comic book series ''Blueberry'', illustrated by Jean Giraud (better known as Moebius) and scripted by Jean-Michel Charlier, but the film has little in common with the source material. The film starred Vincent Cassel as the title character along with Michael Madsen, Juliette Lewis, Djimon Hounsou, Eddie Izzard, Temuera Morrison, Tchéky Karyo, Kestenbetsa, and Ernest Borgnine. Although the film is a French production, the film is in English to match the story's setting in America's Wild West in the 1870s. Since the character of Blueberry remains obscure in the States, the film was released on DVD in America in November 2004 under the title ''Renegade'' and marketed very much as a conventional Western.
