Münster (region)
Münster is one of the five ''Regierungsbezirke'' of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, located in the north of the state, and named after the capital city of Münster. It includes the area which in medieval times was known as the Dreingau. Regierungsbezirk Münster mostly covers rural areas of Münsterland famous for their castles, e.g. Castle Nordkirchen and Castle Ahaus. The region offers more than a hundred castles, all linked up by the cycle path ''100 Schlösser Route''. The three southern municipalities are part of the Ruhrgebiet, a densely populated region with much industry. Besides this the area is mostly as green as the rest of Münsterland and historically a part of the landscape. The history of the ''Regierungsbezirk'' dates back to 1815, when it was one of the original 25 ''Regierungsbezirke'' created as a subdivision of the provinces of Prussia. Large Münsterländer
The Large Münsterländer or Großer Münsterländer is a modern German breed of continental pointing dog of spaniel type. It originated in Westphalia and Lower Saxony, and is named for the Münsterland region of northern Westphalia. It shares the same origins as the German Long-haired Pointer, and was established as a separate breed when the breed society removed the black-and-white colouration from its breed standard. A new breed society for black-and-white long-haired pointers was started in 1919, and the new breed was recognised in 1922. It was definitively accepted by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale in 1954. Small Münsterländer
The Small Münsterländer (also SM or Kleiner Münsterländer) is a versatile hunting dog, hunting-pointer (dog), pointing-retriever, retrieving dog breed that reached its current form in the area around Münster, Germany. The Large Münsterländer is from the same area, but was developed from different breeding stock and is not related as the names would suggest. Small Münsterländers bear a resemblance to both spaniels and setters but are more versatile while hunting on land and water. The Small Münsterländer is recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale under Group 7, Section 1.2, Continental Pointing Dogs of Spaniel type, by the American Kennel Club as a Foundation Stock Service breed, and by The Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club as a gun dog.
