Münster Zoo
The Allwetterzoo Münster is a Zoo in Münster in Westfalen, Germany. The Zoo origins in the 1875 founded, and 1973 closed ''Zoologische Garten zu Münster'', replaced by the 1974 founded Allwetterzoo Münster, which was built in a tree-rich area close to the lake Aasee. The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA), is an organisation for the European zoo and aquarium community that links over 340 member organisations in 41 countries. EAZA membership is open to all zoos and aquaria across Europe that comply with EAZA's standards. Lead Lake Aasee is an artificial lake in Münster, Westphalia. Geography The lake lies southwest of the city center. It has an area of and is approximately long. It is at its deepest point. The lake is surrounded by numerous green spaces and trees, which makes it the largest recreational area in the city of Münster. The lake blocks the water of Münster's Aa River and protects the city from flooding. It also provides cool air for the city, because mainly southwest air masses are cooled above the lake. Hermann Landois
Hermann Landois (19 April 1835, Münster – 29 January 1905) was a German zoologist. He was the brother of physiologist Leonard Landois (1837–1902). He belonged to the Catholic popularizers of science who gained attraction in late nineteenth-century Germany. He studied natural sciences and Catholic theology in Münster, where he was ordained as a priest in 1859. In 1863 he obtained his doctorate in zoology at the University of Greifswald, later becoming an associate professor of zoology at the Academy in Münster (1873). In 1871 he founded the ''Westfälischen Vereins für Vogelschutz, Geflügel- und Singvögelzucht'' (Westphalian Association for bird protection, poultry and songbird breeding), and during the following year founded the ''Zoologischen Sektion für Westfalen und Lippe'' (Zoological Division of Westphalia and Lippe).
