Mübeccel Argun
Mübeccel Argun Tek (190926 April 1982) was a Turkish sportswoman, teacher of physical education and radio presenter, who worked for the BBC Turkish in London, United Kingdom. Early years Mübeccel was born to Ottoman Army officer Hüsamettin and his wife Bergüzar as the youngest of three daughters. Her older sisters were Melahat (later Etili) and Sabahat (later Filmer). After her father died during his duty at the Russian border, her mother moved to Istanbul with her daughters, and lived in an apartment with their paternal grandmother. Physical education and sport Mübeccel was educated at Teachers' School for Girls. During her free time, she took part in sports and learned the English language. She worked as a sports assistant at the British School of Istanbul. She was one of the first female athletes in Turkey. Şişli Mosque
The Şişli Mosque ( tr, Şişli Camii) is a mosque located in Şişli Square between the Büyükdere Avenue, the Halaskargazi and Abide-i Hürriyet streets in the Şişli district of Istanbul, Turkey. Due to lack of any mosque in Şişli, which got incorporated into the urban area with the rapid expansion of the city in the 1940s, the residents demanded the building of a mosque. With the initiative of Mayor Lütfi Kırdar, a land of was left over to a symbolic price to the trustees of the mosque. Designed in classical Ottoman architectural style by architect Ali Vasfi Egeli, its construction began in 1945, and it was opened to worship in 1949. A ''kadi'' ( ar, قاضي '; tr, kadı) was an official in the Ottoman Empire. The term ''kadi'' refers to judges who preside over matters in accordance with Islamic law, but in the Ottoman Empire, the ''kadi'' also became a crucial part of the central authority's administrative hierarchy. Mehmet Lütfi Kırdar (March 15, 1887 – February 17, 1961) was a Turkish physician, civil servant, politician and Minister of Health and Social Security. He is best remembered for his long-term position as the Governor and Mayor of Istanbul. Early years and professional career Lütfi Kırdar was born 1887 in his native city of Kirkuk (then the Ottoman Empire) to the prominent Turkmen Kirdar family. After finishing primary and secondary education in his hometown, he graduated from high school in Baghdad, Ottoman Empire. In 1908, he went to Istanbul to study medicine at Istanbul University. He interrupted his university education and entered the army when the Balkan Wars (1912–1913) outbroke. After the war, he resumed his university education and graduated in 1917 as a physician.
