''Música e Ciência'' ( Portuguese for "''Music and Science''") is the debut album by Brazilian experimental rock duo Os Mulheres Negras, released in 1988 by WEA (present-day Warner Music Group). Produced by Pena Schmidt and with art direction by Liminha, the album was lauded for its experimentation and eclecticism, flirting with distinct stylistic influences such as The Beatles, Henry Mancini, George Gershwin and Tom Jobim, and garnered a strong cult following; nevertheless, it was a commercial failure, leading Schmidt to remark that "Brazil isn't ready for Os Mulheres Negras". "Sub" is a Portuguese-language version of The Beatles' " Yellow Submarine". Also covered on the album are George Gershwin's " Summertime", Henry Mancini's "Peter Gunn" and Tom Jobim's " Samba do Avião". A music video was made for the track "Eu Vi". Os Mulheres Negras
Os Mulheres Negras ( Portuguese for "The Black Women") are a Brazilian experimental rock duo formed in São Paulo in 1985, by musicians André Abujamra (vocals, electric guitar, synthesizer, drum machine) and Maurício Pereira (vocals, saxophone). Self-described as "the world's third smallest big band", they are known for their eclectic musical style characterized by humorous, "cartoonish" lyrics and elaborate theatrical performances which attained them a passionate cult following. Henry Mancini
Henry Mancini ( ; born Enrico Nicola Mancini; April 16, 1924 – June 14, 1994) was an American composer, conductor, arranger, pianist and flutist. Often cited as one of the greatest composers in the history of film, he won four Academy Awards, a Golden Globe, and twenty Grammy Awards, plus a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1995. His works include the theme and soundtrack for the ''Peter Gunn'' television series as well as the music for ''The Pink Panther'' film series (" The Pink Panther Theme") and " Moon River" from '' Breakfast at Tiffany's''. Heitor Villa-Lobos (March 5, 1887November 17, 1959) was a Brazilian composer, conductor, cellist, and classical guitarist described as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music". Villa-Lobos has globally become one of the most recognizable South American composers in music history. A prolific composer, he wrote numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental and vocal works, totaling over 2,000 works by his death in 1959. Maurício Pereira (born November 8, 1959) is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, lyricist, journalist, saxophonist, Announcer#Television and other media, television announcer, stage actor and record producer best known for his work with experimental rock duo Os Mulheres Negras. Biography Pereira was born in São Paulo on November 8, 1959. He met musician André Abujamra (son of actor Antônio Abujamra) in 1984, and in the following year they formed Os Mulheres Negras. The duo released two albums, ''Música e Ciência'' (1988) and ''Música Serve pra Isso'' (1990), through Warner Music Group, WEA (present-day Warner Music Group) before disbanding in 1991. Both musicians then began their respective solo careers, with Pereira becoming Marcelo Rubens Paiva's bandleader for his talk show ''Fanzine'', hosted by TV Cultura in the early 1990s. André Abujamra
André Cibelli Abujamra (born May 15, 1965) is a Brazilian score composer, musician, singer, guitarist, actor, and comedian of Lebanese and Italian origin. Both his father, Antônio Abujamra, and cousin, Clarisse Abujamra, are actors. Film work Abujamra has worked on nearly 30 films in his career since entering the Cinema of Brazil in 1988, and has composed the soundtracks to acclaimed Brazilian films such as ''Durval Discos'' (2002), '' Carandiru'' (2003), and '' Cafundó'' (2005).
