Mélanie Rocan
Mélanie Rocan (born 1980) is a Canadian artist from La Broquerie, Manitoba. She works mostly in various paint mediums. She also has been known to work in multimedia, especially when working collaboratively. Education Rocan began her undergraduate education at the University of Ottawa in 1999, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from the University of Manitoba in 2003. Having gone on exchange to Glasgow School of Art in 2005, she received her Master of Fine Arts from Concordia University's painting program in 2008. Career Besides her exhibition career, Rocan has held the Deep Bay, British Columbia, Deep Bay Artists' Residency in 2014. During this Artist-in-residence, residency, Rocan worked with other Two Six member, Shaun Morin, to create collaborative mixed media works. La Broquerie, Manitoba
La Broquerie is a local urban district in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie, Manitoba, Canada. It is a predominantly Francophone community located approximately 10 kilometres east of Steinbach, Manitoba and 70 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital Winnipeg, at the confluence of Highways 52, 210, and 302. For most of the community's history, La Broquerie has been ranked as Manitoba's largest dairy producer. A distinctive display at the south entrance to the community features a moderately sized, decorative cow. The area's geography makes it attractive to winter sports. One can snowmobile and cross-country ski along the nature trails in the town as well as throughout the entire Sandilands Provincial Forest area. Free Association (psychology)
Free association is the expression (as by speaking or writing) of the content of consciousness without censorship as an aid in gaining access to unconscious processes. The technique is used in psychoanalysis (and also in psychodynamic theory) which was originally devised by Sigmund Freud out of the hypnotic method of his mentor and colleague, Josef Breuer. Freud described it as such: "The importance of free association is that the patients spoke for themselves, rather than repeating the ideas of the analyst; they work through their own material, rather than parroting another's suggestions." Street art is visual art created in public locations for public visibility. It has been associated with the terms "independent art", "post-graffiti", "neo-graffiti" and guerrilla art. Street art has evolved from the early forms of defiant graffiti into a more commercial form of art, as one of the main differences now lies with the messaging. Street art is often meant to provoke thought rather than rejection among the general audience through making its purpose more evident than that of graffiti.
