Märkisches Viertel
Märkisches Viertel (, ''MV'') is a German locality (''Ortsteil'') in the borough (''Bezirk'') of Reinickendorf in Berlin. Its name refers to the March of Brandenburg (german: Mark Brandenburg). Overview It consists of a large housing estate of about 17,000 apartments with chains of high-rises up to 18 floors that were built from 1964 to 1974 by the ''GeSoBau Gesellschaft für sozialen Wohnungsbau'' (Association for Social Apartment Construction). Originally a part of Wittenau, it became an officially recognized locality of its own in 1999. To the east it shares its border with the Rosenthal and Wilhelmsruh localities of the Pankow borough, from which it was separated by the Berlin Wall until 1989. In 2003 Märkisches Viertel had about 36,000 inhabitants. The district is located on the eastern edge of the district Reinickendorf, almost exactly halfway up its north-south extent. Wittenau () is a German locality (''Ortsteil'') within the borough (''Bezirk'') of Reinickendorf, Berlin. History Originally named Dalldorf it was first mentioned in 1332. In 1869 the city of Berlin had acquired land in the Dalldorf in order to build the ''Städtische Irrenanstalt zu Dalldorf'' (Municipal Mental Asylum at Dalldorf), today's Karl-Bonhoeffer-Nervenklinik (Karl Bonhoeffer mental home), between 1877 and 1879. Rosenthal (Berlin)
Rosenthal () is an affluent locality within the Berlin borough of Pankow. The old village first mentioned in a 1356 deed as ''Rosendalle'' became a part of Greater Berlin in 1920. Overview The Rosenthal locality includes the Nordend (North End) neighborhood. Every year the people of Rosenthal celebrate the ''Rosenthaler Herbst'' (Rosenthal Autumn), which is completely organised by the "Bürgerverein Dorf Rosenthal e. V.", a registered, non-commercial and non-profit citizens' organisation. Most of the meetings and conference are held at the old restaurant Dittmann's. It is the only traditional restaurant that is left in Rosenthal and lasted for over 120 years since 1892. It was founded by Wilhelm Dittmann. Wilhelmsruh
Wilhelmsruh () is a German locality (''Ortsteil'') within the borough (''Bezirk'') of Pankow, Berlin. It is the city's smallest locality, after Halensee and Hansaviertel. History In the locality, originally part of Rosenthal, it was built a country house named ''Nordend'' which received occasionally the designation name ''Rosenthal II''. In 1892 the settlement received the name of ''Colonie Wilhelmsruh''. As part of Nordend municipality (now a zone of Rosenthal), it merged into Berlin in 1920 with the " Greater Berlin Act". During the " Cold War" it was part of East Berlin bordering with the western sector, and it was crossed by the Berlin Wall from 1961 to 1989. The Berlin Wall (german: Berliner Mauer, ) was a guarded concrete barrier that encircled West Berlin from 1961 to 1989, separating it from East Berlin and East Germany (GDR). Construction of the Berlin Wall was commenced by the government of the GDR on 13 August 1961. It included guard towers placed along large concrete walls, accompanied by a wide area (later known as the "death strip") that contained anti-vehicle trenches, beds of nails and other defenses. Sido (rapper)
Paul Hartmut Würdig (born 30 November 1980), better known as Sido, is a German rapper. He interprets his artist name as "super-intelligentes Drogenopfer" (super-intelligent drug victim). It used to stand for "Scheiße in dein Ohr" (shit into your ear), a line from his track "Terroarr". Sido distinguishes himself by using provocative and aggressive lyrics. After his breakthrough with his debut album '' Maske'' in 2004, he was always seen wearing a silver skull mask. However, since 2005, he no longer wears the mask. Würdig's career began in 1997, as one half of duo Royal TS (now A.i.d.S) with B-Tight, both of whom were later signed to the label Berlin hip hop Royal Bunker and then to Aggro Berlin in 2001. Aggro Berlin was a German hip-hop independent record label based in Berlin that existed from 1 January 2001 until 1 April 2009. Three artists ( Sido, Tony D and Kitty Kat) were signed with the label at the time of its closure. Since the end of 2007, it used to be a sub-label of Universal. "Aggro" is German slang for having an aggressive attitude (as in British English). History The label was founded on 1 January 2001 by Berlin rappers Specter, Spaiche and Halil. The first signed artists were Sido and B-Tight. Later, the label also signed Bushido.
