Mythic Imagination Institute
The Mythic Imagination Institute is a non-profit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, whose purpose is to encourage a creative response to life, both individual and collective, through storytelling and mythology: "Every life is a story, and a story can change the world." The Institute's main vehicles for achieving this purpose are conferences, performance festivals, lectures, and educational classes. Mythic Journeys
Mythic Journeys is a performance festival and conference gathering held in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Founded in 2004, it began as a celebration of the works of Joseph Campbell and has expanded into a celebration of the role of myth and storytelling in the modern world. Organized by the Mythic Imagination Institute, the conference attracts such guests as Deepak Chopra, James Hillman, Robert Bly, Janis Ian, John and Caitlin Matthews, Wendy and Brian Froud, Joyce Carol Oates, Terri Windling, Ulla Suokko, and many other participants from such fields as psychology, religion, science, literature, education, entertainment, and the arts. Charles Vess
Charles Vess (born June 10, 1951) is an American fantasy artist and comics artist who has specialized in the illustration of myths and fairy tales. His influences include British "Golden Age" book illustrator Arthur Rackham, Czech Art Nouveau painter Alphonse Mucha, and comic-strip artist Hal Foster, among others. Vess has won several awards for his illustrations. Vess' studio, Green Man Press, is located in Abingdon, VA. Biography Early life and career Charlies Vess began drawing comic art as a child. He graduated with a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 1974. While at VCU, Vess' comics appeared in the ''Fan Free Funnies'', a comic tabloid published by the student newspaper. Brian Froud
Brian Froud (born 1947) is an English fantasy illustrator and conceptual designer. He is most widely known for his 1978 book ''Faeries (book), Faeries'' with Alan Lee (illustrator), Alan Lee, and as the conceptual designer of the Jim Henson films ''The Dark Crystal'' (1982) and ''Labyrinth (1986 film), Labyrinth'' (1986). According to ''Wired (magazine), Wired'', Froud is "one of the most pre-emiminent visualizers of the world of faerie and folktale". Most recently, Froud developed the 2019 streaming television series ''The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance''. Early life Froud was born in Winchester, England in 1947. Wendy Froud
Wendy Froud (''née'' Midener; born 1954) is an American doll-artist, sculptor, puppet-maker, and writer. She is best known for her work fabricating Yoda for the 1980 film '' Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back'', for which she has been called "the mother of Yoda", and creatures for the Jim Henson films ''The Dark Crystal'' and ''Labyrinth''. Early life Froud was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1954 to painter and 3D-collage artist Margaret "Peggy" (née Mackenzie; 1925–2016) and sculptor and artist Walter Midener (1912–1998). Terri Windling
Terri Windling (born December 3, 1958 in Fort Dix, New Jersey) is an American editor, artist, essayist, and the author of books for both children and adults. She has won nine World Fantasy Awards, the Mythopoeic Fantasy Award, and the Bram Stoker Award, and her collection ''The Armless Maiden'' appeared on the short-list for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award. In 2010, Windling received the SFWA Solstice Award, which honors "individuals with a significant impact on the speculative fiction field". Alan Lee (born 20 August 1947) is an English book illustrator and film conceptual designer. He is best known for his artwork inspired by J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novels, and for his work on the conceptual design of Peter Jackson's film adaptations of Tolkien, ''The Lord of the Rings'' and ''The Hobbit'' film series. James Hillman
James Hillman (April 12, 1926 – October 27, 2011) was an American psychologist. He studied at, and then guided studies for, the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich. He founded a movement toward archetypal psychology and retired into private practice, writing and traveling to lecture, until his death at his home in Connecticut.
