Mystic Familiar
''Mystic Familiar'' is the fifth studio album by the American electronic musician Dan Deacon. Background ''Mystic Familiar'' marked Dan Deacon's first solo studio record since 2015's ''Gliss Riffer''. In the intervening years, Deacon had toured heavily and focused on other collaborative projects such as the 2017 ballet ''The Times Are Racing'' with New York City Ballet resident choreographer Justin Peck, a 2019 performance with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and scoring feature films such as Theo Anthony's ''Rat Film'' and Finlay Pretsell's ''Time Trial''. Dan Deacon
Daniel Deacon (born August 28, 1981) is an American composer and electronic musician based in Baltimore, Maryland. Deacon is renowned for his live shows, where large-scale audience participation and interaction is often a major element of the performance. Since 2003, he has released five solo albums, including 2015's '' Gliss Riffer'', released by Domino Records. His work as a film composer includes scoring the 2021 documentaries ''All Light, Everywhere'' and '' Ascension'', both released as soundtrack albums by Milan Records, as well as Francis Ford Coppola's '' Twixt'' (with Osvaldo Golijov). Justin Peck
Justin Peck (born September 8, 1987) is an American choreographer, director, and dancer associated with New York City Ballet, of which he was appointed Resident Choreographer in July 2014, being the second person in the history of the institution to hold this title. In 2018 he won the Tony Award for Best Choreography for his work on the third Broadway theatre, Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's ''Carousel (musical), Carousel''. Peter Schmidt (artist)
Peter Schmidt (17 May 1931 – 22 January 1980) was a Berlin-born British artist, painter, theoretician of color and composition, pioneering multimedia exhibitor and an influential teacher at Watford College of Art. He was part of a generation of art school teachers in the 1960s and 1970s who had great impact on some students who later went on to work in art and music. He worked with Hansjörg Mayer, Brian Eno, Mark Boyle, Dieter Roth and had associations with Russell Mills, David Toop and Tom Phillips. Oblique Strategies (subtitled ''Over One Hundred Worthwhile Dilemmas'') is a card-based method for promoting creativity jointly created by musician/artist Brian Eno and multimedia artist Peter Schmidt, first published in 1975. Physically, it takes the form of a deck of printed cards in a black box. Each card offers a challenging constraint intended to help artists (particularly musicians) break creative blocks by encouraging lateral thinking. Origin and history In 1970, Peter Schmidt created "The Thoughts Behind the Thoughts", a box containing 55 sentences letterpress printed onto disused prints that accumulated in his studio, which is still in Eno's possession. Eno, who had known Schmidt since the late 1960s, had been pursuing a similar project himself, which he had handwritten onto a number of bamboo cards and given the name "Oblique Strategies" in 1974. Ed Schrader's Music Beat is an American two piece rock duo of Ed Schrader and Devlin Rice from Baltimore, Maryland. According to The Boston Hassle, the duo has "a gas pedal/brake pedal sonic narrative, careening without warning between cross-eyed tantrums and sultry, eyebrow-cocked croons." They have released albums on Infinity Cat Recordings, Load Records, Upset The Rhythm, and Famous Class Records.
